Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Check the current flow to the heating element in the ARD combustion head
A. Start the engine. Check the current flow to the heater. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "ARD Nozzle Heater (Current) - Test" for the correct procedure.
Current Check
Result: The current flow is between 7.0 A and 14 A for a 12 V system. Or, the current flow is between 3.5 A and 7 A for a 24 V system.
The current flow is OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: The current flow is not between 7.0 A and 14 A for a 12 V system. Or, the current flow is not between 3.5 A and 7 A for a 24 V system.
Repair : There may be a problem with the ARD nozzle. Refer to Troubleshooting, "ARD Nozzle Heater - Test".
STOP.
2. Verify fuel filter maintenance procedure.
A. Verify the engine fuel filters were changed at the correct service interval.
Fuel Filter
Result: Fuel filters were changed at correct previous service interval.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: Fuel filters were not changed at correct previous service interval.
Repair: Replace fuel filters. Perform an "ARD Ignition Test" using Cat ET. Refer to System Operation & Testing and Adjusting, ARD Fuel System - Test.
3. Perform an ARD Ignition Test and Record the Enhanced Troubleshooting Indicator (ETI)
A. Establish communication between Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) and the Electronic Control Module (ECM). Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tools", if necessary.
B. Perform an ARD Ignition Test using Cat ET. Refer to System Operation and Testing and Adjusting, "ARD Fuel System - Test".
C. The ETI code is located in the "Active Events" or "Logged Events" screen in Cat ET. Record the Enhanced Troubleshooting Indicator (ETI) code.
ETI codes are not available for (2) codes.
ETI Code
Result : There is not an ETI for the diagnostic code.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Result : The ETI code was recorded.
Proceed to Test Step 4.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
4. Check the Fuel Diverter Valve
A. Turn the engine OFF.
B. Disconnect the ARD fuel line from the pump.
C. Install the required parts listed in Table 2 at the outlet port of the pump.
D. Turn the keyswitch to ON.
E. Establish communications between Cat ET and the Engine ECM.
F. Clear the active event code or the override will not activate.
G. Establish communication between Cat ET and the engine ECM. Select "Fuel Priming Command Override" or use the manual priming switch (if equipped) to activate the ARD fuel pump.
H. Override the pump and record the pressure from the pressure gauge.
I. Deactivate the override.
J. Turn the keyswitch to OFF.
Pressure Checkout
Result: The pressure reading was greater than 758 kPa (110 psi).
Repair : Replace the diverter valve. Perform an "ARD Ignition Test" using Cat ET. Refer to System Operation and Testing and Adjusting, "ARD Fuel System - Test".
Note: The ARD Ignition Test cannot be performed if the DPF soot loading is above 80%. When the DPF soot loading is above 80%, the Manual DPF Regeneration must be performed using Cat ET.
If the code remains proceed to Test Step 5.
Result: The pressure reading was less than 758 kPa (110 psi).
Proceed to Test Step 5.
