The connection of any electrical equipment and the disconnection of any electrical equipment may cause an explosion hazard which may result in injury or death. Do not connect any electrical equipment or disconnect any electrical equipment in an explosive atmosphere.
Test Step 1. Inspect the Electrical Connectors and the Wiring
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Thoroughly inspect all connectors that are associated with the +5 V sensor supply for your engine. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.

For C-10 engines, inspect connectors (4), (7), and (8). Also inspect each of the connectors that are for sensors (1), (2), (3), and (5) .

For C-15 engines, inspect connectors (9), (15), and (16). Also inspect each of the connectors that are for sensors (10), (11), (12), and (13) .

Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires that are associated with the +5 V sensor supply.
Check the torque of the allen head screw on the ECM connectors and the customer connector. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for the correct torque values.
Check the harness and wiring for abrasion and for pinch points from the sensors back to the ECM.Expected Result:All connectors, pins and sockets are completely coupled and/or inserted and the harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion and of pinch points.Results:
OK - The harness and connectors appear to be OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - The connectors and/or wiring are not OK.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all of the seals are properly in place and ensure that the connectors are completely coupled.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 2. Check for Active Diagnostic Codes
Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Check for active diagnostic codes on Cat (ET). Record any active diagnostic codes.Note: Wait at least 15 seconds in order for the diagnostic codes to become active.Expected Result:No diagnostic codes are active.Results:
OK - No diagnostic codes are active.Repair: The problem may have been solved during the preceding inspection of the harness and connectors. The problem may be intermittent. If the problem is intermittent, refer to the diagnostic functional test Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".STOP
Not OK - A 262-03 diagnostic code is active. Proceed to Test Step 3.
Not OK - A 262-04 diagnostic code is active. Proceed to Test Step 4.
