1. Remove the bolt and nut (5) to disconnect governor control linkage (3) from lever (4).2. Remove bolts (1), cover (2) and the cover gasket from the governor housing. 3. Remove the bolt from stop collar (6). Remove stop collar (6). Remove the collar and spring from below collar (6). 4. Install tool (A) in the fuel injection pump housing. Make sure the correct end of tool (A) is used. Move governor control lever (3) until tool (A) is in place and the racks are in center (zero) position.5. Remove bolts (8) and governor housing (7). 6. Disconnect fuel lines (11) from governor plate (10).7. Remove bolts (9) and remove governor plate (10). It is possible to remove the governor and governor plate as a unit. The above steps must be followed before the governor can be installed again on the injection pump housing.Install Governor
The drive assembly must be removed from the governor plate before the governor plate is installed on the injection pump housing.
1. Install a new gasket on the injection pump housing.2. Put governor plate (1) in position on the fuel pump housing. Make sure the dowels in governor plate (1) are in alignment with the holes in the injection pump housing. The racks must be held against rack stop pin and the governor lever engaged in the groove (slot) in the left hand rack. 3. Connect fuel lines to governor plate (1). 4. Install collar (2) in gear (4). Make sure the wide space in collar (2) is in alignment with the wide space in the drive pinion assembly.5. Install drive assembly (3). 6. Install spring washer (6), washer (7) and snap ring (5) into gear (4). 7. Install governor spring (11), a spring washer (9) on each side of washer (10). Install seat (8) on the top of spring (11). 8. Use a new gasket and install governor housing (12). Remove tool (A) and install a plug in the hole. 9. Put spring and collar (14) on governor bolt (15). Install governor stop collar (13) on bolt (15).10. Check the governor adjustment. See GOVERNOR ADJUSTMENTS in TESTING AND ADJUSTING. 11. Install cover (17) and connect governor control linkage (16). start by:a) remove governor 1. Bend the locks down on torque spring assembly (1). Remove the torque spring assembly.2. Remove high idle screw (2) and low idle screw (3) from governor housing (4).3. Bend lock (7) down and remove the bolt from control lever (8). Remove shaft (5) and control lever (8).4. Remove the lip type seals and shaft bearings from housing (6). 5. Remove seat (9), spring washer, flat washer (10), and spring washer. Remove spring (12) and spring washer (11). 6. Remove ring (15) from seat (14). Remove the dowel from seat (14). Remove seat (14) and governor bolt (13) as a unit. Remove the bolt from the seat. 7. Remove washer (16), spring (17), the washer and sleeve (18).8. Remove the ring, race, bearing and race from the bottom of sleeve (18).9. Remove lock (19) from flyweight assembly (20). Remove flyweight assembly (20). 10. Bend the locks from bolts (23) and remove the bolts. Remove bracket (25) and pin (24) as a unit. Remove the pin from the bracket.11. Remove servo piston assembly (21) through the bottom of governor plate (22). 12. Remove shaft (26) from the bracket assembly with a hammer and punch.13. Remove levers (28) and spring (27) from the bracket assembly. 14. Remove piston (31) from cylinder (29). Remove sleeve (32) from the cylinder. Remove the O-ring seals from cylinder (29) and seal (30) from sleeve (32). 15. Remove snap ring, washer and spring washer (34). Remove drive assembly (35) and drive collar from drive gear (33). 16. Remove snap ring (36) and drive gear (33). 17. Remove bearing (37) and dowel (38).Assemble Governor
1. If replacement of the dowels in the governor plate is necessary see illustration for correct installation dimensions. 2. Install the bearing for drive gear (1) in the governor plate with tooling (A) until it is .020 in. (0.51 mm) from the top surface of the governor plate.3. Install drive gear (1). Install ring (2) with tool (B). 4. Put valve (4) in piston (5). Install piston (5) in sleeve (3).5. Install the O-ring seals on cylinder (6).6. Install the servo piston assembly valve (4), piston (5), sleeve (3) and cylinder (6) through the bottom of the governor plate. The valve, piston, sleeve and cylinder are parts of the servo piston assembly. Put the notch in cylinder (6) in alignment with the bolt hole in the governor plate. 7. Put spring (8) in position on inner and outer levers (9). Put levers (9) and the spring in position in bracket (10). Put the holes in the bracket in alignment with the holes in levers (9). Install shaft (7). 8. Install pin (11) in bracket assembly (10) with the grooves in pin (11) engaged with outer lever (9).9. Put the bracket assembly into position on the governor plate with pin (11) engaged with the servo piston assembly as shown. Install the bolts and locks that hold bracket assembly (10) to the governor plate. 10. Install flyweight and gear assembly (12) on the servo piston assembly. Install lock (13). 11. Put bearing (17) between races (15) and install them on sleeve (14). Install ring (16) in the groove in sleeve (14). 12. Put governor bolt (19) inside seat (18). Install a washer (20) on each side of spring (21) inside seat (18).13. Put sleeve (14) on valve (22). Put the hole in sleeve (14) in alignment with the hole in valve (22). 14. Install seat (18) over sleeve (14). Install the pin through the holes in seat (18), sleeve (14) and valve (22). 15. Install ring (24) over the pin through seat (18). Install spring washer (23) over bolt (19) with the concave (part that makes curve to inside) side away
