Start By:a. connect steering frame lock linkFluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.1. Lower the bucket of the machine to the floor.2. Activate the parking brake.3. Remove the rear crankcase guards under the hydraulic oil cooler.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Be sure all the hydraulic pressure is released before any fittings, hoses or components are loosened, tightened, removed or adjusted. Refer to the topic "Remove & Install Crankcase Guards" in this module.
4. Release the pressure in the hydraulic systems as follows: a. Lower the implements to the ground.b. Shut off the engine.c. Move the control levers through the full range of travel. This will relieve any pressure that may be present in the implement hydraulic system.d. Move the STIC Steering Control to the "Left and Right" position. This will release any pressure that may be present in the steering system.e. Pump the brake pedal several times. This will release any pressure that may be present in the brake system.f. Carefully loosen the filler cap on the implement and brake hydraulic oil tank to release the pressure.g. Carefully loosen the filler cap on the steering and fan hydraulic oil tank to release the pressure.h. Tighten the filler caps on both hydraulic oil tanks.g. The pressure in the hydraulic systems has now been released. Lines and components can be removed.5. Drain the oil from the implement hydraulic oil tank in a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the hydraulic oil tank is 303 liters (78.7 U.S. gal).
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
6. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly loosening the filler cap on the radiator. Drain the coolant from the radiator in a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is 183 liters (47.6 U.S. gal). 7. Support radiator guard assembly hood (1) with Tooling (A) and a suitable hoist and chains. Remove eight bolts (2) and radiator guard assembly hood(1). The weight of the radiator guard is 70 lbs. 8. Disconnect hydraulic oil cooler hose assemblies (3) and (7). Disconnect two upper radiator tube assemblies (4) and (6) and turbocharger coolant tube assembly (5) from the upper radiator tank. 9. Disconnect the opposite end of upper radiator tube assemblies (4) and (6) and turbocharger coolant tube assembly (5). Remove tube assemblies (4), (6) and (5). 10. Remove ten bolts (9) and baffle assemblies (8). 11. Disconnect hose assembly (10) from the steering hydraulic oil cooler and hose assembly (11) from the implement hydraulic oil cooler.12. Remove two bolts (12) and washers from each hydraulic oil cooler mount. Remove mounting caps (13). 13. Fasten a hoist and lifting strap to implement hydraulic oil cooler (14) as shown.14. Remove the upper mount bolts for the implement hydraulic oil cooler. 15. Carefully remove implement hydraulic oil cooler (14). The weight of implement hydraulic oil cooler (14) is 200 lbs. 16. Attach a hoist and lifting strap to steering hydraulic oil cooler (15) as shown.17. Remove the upper mount bolts for the steering hydraulic oil cooler.
During removal of the hydraulic oil cooler core, do not damage the radiator core or the hydraulic oil cooler core.
18. Carefully remove steering hydraulic oil cooler (15). The weight of steering hydraulic oil cooler (15) is 105 lb. The following steps are for the installation of the hydraulic oil coolers.19. Clean the hydraulic oil cooler cores and check for any restrictions. Straighten any bent cooling fins prior to installation. Install the hydraulic oil coolers in reverse order of removal. Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for all fluid capacities and the proper filling procedures.20. Start the machine and check for leaks.21. Install rear crankcase guards.End By:a. separate steering frame lock link
