Typical example
Remove drain plug (1) on the engine. Open the drain cock or remove the drain plug on the radiator.Allow the coolant to drain.
Refer to OEM for the drain location for your application.
Dispose of used engine coolant properly or recycle. Various methods have been proposed to reclaim used coolant for reuse in engine cooling systems. The full distillation procedure is the only method acceptable by Caterpillar to reclaim the used coolant.
For information regarding the disposal and the recycling of used coolant, consult your Cat dealer or consult Dealer Service Tools.Drain Plugs for Factory Installed Radiators

Tighten drain plug (3) to a torque of 4 N m (35.4 lb in)
Tighten drain plug (4) to a torque of 6 N m (53. lb in)Flush
Flush the cooling system with clean water to remove any debris.
Close the drain valve (if equipped). Clean the drain plugs. Install the drain plugs. Refer to Torque Specifications, SENR3130 for more information on the correct torques.
Do not fill the cooling system faster than 5 L (1.3 US gal) per minute to avoid air locks.Cooling system air locks may result in engine damage.
Fill the cooling system with clean water. Install the cooling system filler cap.
Start and run the engine at low idle until the temperature reaches 49 °C to 66 °C (120 °F to 150 °F).

Typical example
Clean the cooling system filler cap and check the condition of the filler cap gasket (2). Replace the cooling system filler cap if the filler cap gasket (2) and sealing surface (1) are damaged. If the cooling system filler cap is not damaged, perform a pressure test on the filler cap.
Cooling system filler cap pressure for three cylinder engine 95 kPa (13.7 psi)
Cooling system filler cap pressure for four cylinder engine 110 kPa (15.9 psi)If the cooling system filler cap passes the pressure test check, install the filler cap. If required install new cooling system filler cap.
Start the engine. Inspect the cooling system for leaks and for proper operating temperature.
