Fuel Pressure Sensor - After Fuel Filter : Data Drifted Low The 5 VDC supply to the sensor has been lost.
The code is logged. The Electronic Control Module (ECM) supplies a regulated voltage of 8.0 0.4 VDC to the digital sensors. The ECM supplies a regulated voltage of 5.0 0.2 VDC to the analog sensors. The supply voltage for the sensors is routed from the ECM to terminal 1 of each sensor connector. The sensor return for the sensors is routed from the ECM to terminal 2 of each sensor connector. The ECM provides short circuit protection for the internal power supply. A short circuit to the battery will not damage the internal power supply.Note: The sensors are not protected from overvoltage. A short from the supply line to the +Battery may damage the sensors. If any of the diagnostic codes are active, a sensor may have been damaged. Repair the sensor supply and check for any active sensor diagnostic codes to determine if a sensor has been damaged.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Check for Codes
A. Connect Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector.
B. Determine if a code is active or logged.
Codes
Result: A -3 or -4 code is active for the 8 VDC digital supply.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: A -3 or -4 code is active for the 5 VDC analog supply.
Proceed to Test Step 5.
2. Inspect the Electrical Connectors and the Wiring
A. Turn the keyswitch switch to the OFF position.
B. Thoroughly inspect the connectors. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors-Inspect" for additional information.
C. Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on the connector wires.
D. Check the harness for abrasions and pinch points.
Connectors and Wiring
Result: The connectors and wiring appear to be OK.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: There is a problem with the connectors and/or wiring.
Repair: Repair or replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all the seals are properly in place and ensure that the connectors are coupled.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Check for Codes
A. Connect Cat ET.
B. Use Cat ET to monitor the following:
- Codes
C. One at a time, disconnect each 8 V sensor from the circuit.
D. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Codes
Result: The code remains active after all the sensors are disconnected. The sensors are not the cause of the code. Leave the sensors disconnected.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Result: The code deactivates when the affected sensor is disconnected.
Repair: Reconnect the affected sensor. If the code returns, replace the sensor.
Verify that the repair eliminated the problem.
4. Check the Supply Voltage at the Electronic Control Module (ECM)
A. At the ECM harness connector, remove the supply wire and remove the return wire, for the circuit for the code.
B. Using appropriate terminals, fabricate two jumper wires.
C. At the ECM harness connector, install one jumper wire into the supply terminal location and install one jumper wire into the return terminal location.
D. Measure the voltage between the jumper wires.
8.0 0.4 VDC
Result: The supply voltage is approximately 8.0 0.4 VDC.
Repair: The ECM is operating correctly. The supply wire is shorted to another wire in the wiring harness or the supply wire is shorted to engine ground. Repair the supply wire.
Verify that the repair eliminated the problem.
Result: The supply voltage is not approximately 8.0 0.4 VDC.
Repair: The ECM is not producing the correct supply voltage. There is a problem with the ECM. Before replacing the ECM, contact your Cat dealer Technical Communicator (TC).
5. Inspect the Electrical Connectors and the Wiring
A. Turn the main disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Proceed to Test Step 6.
Result: There is a problem with the connectors and/or wiring.
Repair: Repair or replace the connec
