This guideline provides the weld procedure and fabricated parts to repair cracked welds around the axle mount. A crack typically initiates at the toes of the axle pad rear welds due to fatigue. The crack then propagates through the plate upwards into the Non-Engine End Frame (NEEF) side plates in a very long process. Do not attempt to repair the frame if the cracking has propagated to both inner and outer NEEF side plates and cracking in any of these plates is more than 100 mm in length, shown as (A) in Illustration 3.
