Start By:a. remove rear hood assemblyFluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin. Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
1. Turn the fuel supply valve, located on the fuel tank, to the "Off" position. 2. Disconnect hose assembly (1) from fuel transfer pump (2). Disconnect tube assembly (4) from unit injector hydraulic pump (3). Cap and plug all connections to avoid system contamination. 3. Remove tube assembly (5) from unit injector hydraulic pump (3) and elbow (6). Cap and plug all connections to avoid system contamination. 4. Disconnect tube assembly (7) from fuel transfer pump (2). Cap and plug all connections to avoid system contamination. 5. Loosen bolt (8) and the washer from clamp assembly (9). Disconnect tube assembly (10) from clamp assembly (9). Set tube assembly (10) out of the way. 6. Disconnect tube assembly (11) from unit injector hydraulic pump (3). Cap and plug all connections to avoid system contamination. 7. Mark and identify three wire harnesses (12), (13) and (14) for installation purposes. Disconnect three wire harnesses (12), (13), (14) at the electrical connection. 8. Remove four bolts (15), the washers, and pump support (16) from unit injector hydraulic pump (3). 9. Position Tool (A) and a suitable lifting device on unit injector hydraulic pump (3) as shown. Secure the lifting device to a hoist. Remove three 12 point head bolts (17), the washers, and unit injector hydraulic pump (3) from the engine. The weight of unit injector hydraulic pump (3) is 32 Kg (70 lb). 10. Remove O-ring seal (18) from unit injector hydraulic pump (3). 11. Remove Tool (A), oil temperature sensor (20), the O-ring seal and oil pressure sensor (19) and the O-ring seal from unit injector hydraulic pump (3). The following steps are for the installation of the unit injector hydraulic pump.12. Make sure all components of the unit injector hydraulic pump are clean of dirt and foreign material prior to installation.13. Check all components for wear or damage and replace if necessary.14. Lubricate all O-ring seals lightly with engine oil. 15. Position Tool (A) on unit injector hydraulic pump (3) as shown. Secure the lifting device to a hoist.16. Install oil temperature sensor (20) and the O-ring seal to unit injector hydraulic pump (3). Tighten oil temperature sensor (20) to a torque of 20 3 N m (177 27 lb in).17.
