Table 1
Diagnostic Trouble Codes for "Injector Data Incorrect"
CDL Code     Description     Notes
1-2     Cylinder #1 Injector : Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect     The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects an injector code that is incorrect for the engine.
The Engine System Indicator lamp will come on.
2-2     Cylinder #2 Injector : Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect
3-2     Cylinder #3 Injector : Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect
4-2     Cylinder #4 Injector : Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect
5-2     Cylinder #5 Injector : Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect
6-2     Cylinder #6 Injector : Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect    The following background information is related to this procedure:Injector codes are codes that are 30 hexadecimal characters in length that are supplied with each injector. The code is on a plate on the top of the injector and a card is also included in the packaging for the injector. The code is used by the ECM to balance the performance of the injectors.Refer to Troubleshooting, "Injector Code - Calibrate" for further information.

Sequence for recording the injector codeTest Step 1. Check for Diagnostic Codes That Are Related to this Procedure
Connect the electronic service tool to the diagnostic connector.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Check for active diagnostic codes that are related to this procedure.
Make a note of the active diagnostic codes.Expected Result:One or more of the diagnostic codes that are listed in Table 1 are active at this time. Results:
OK - One or more of the preceding diagnostic codes are active. Make a note of any cylinder numbers with the active diagnostic code. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - None of the preceding diagnostic codes are active at this time.STOPTest Step 2. Check the Injector Code on any Suspect Cylinders
Connect the electronic service tool to the diagnostic connector. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tools".
Turn the Keyswitch to the ON position.
Select the following menu options on the electronic service tool in order to obtain the injector codes from the ECM:
"Service"
"Calibrations"
"Injector Trim Calibration"
Make a note of the injector codes for any suspect cylinders.
If the card that was supplied with the injector is available for the suspect cylinders, perform the following procedure:
Compare the injector code from the card with the injector code that was recorded from the electronic service tool for each suspect cylinder.
If the codes match, then continue with this procedure.
If the codes do not match, then use the electronic service tool to input the code from the card.
If the diagnostic code is still active or the card with the injector code is not available, then continue with this procedure.
Remove the valve mechanism cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install".
Make a note of the injector code that is on the injector in any suspect cylinders.Note: Refer to Illustration 2 for the correct sequence for recording the injector code.
Compare the recorded injector code from the injector with the injector code from the electronic service tool for each suspect cylinder. Results:
The code on the injector is the same as the code in the ECM - The injector is incorrect for the engine.Repair: Replace the injector with the correct injector for the engine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electronic Unit Injector - Remove" and refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electronic Unit Injector - Install".STOP
The code on the injector is not the same as the code in the ECM - Repair: Use the electronic service tool to input the correct injector code. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Injector Code - Calibrate" for the correct procedure.Use the electronic service tool in order to clear all logged diagnostic codes and then verify that the repair eliminates the fault.STOP
