P1 ECM connector (throttle lock mode switch)Test Step 1. Inspect Electrical Connectors and Wiring
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF/RESET position.
Thoroughly inspect the J1/P1 ECM connector, the J61/P61 machine connector, the throttle lock mode switch, the throttle speed set switch, any other connectors in the circuit, and the associated wiring. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets should be completely inserted and coupled. The harness and wiring should be free of corrosion, abrasion, and pinch points. Results:
OK - Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - Repair: Repair the circuit.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 2. Check the Status of the Throttle Speed Set Switch on the Electronic Service Tool
Connect the electronic service tool to the service tool connector and turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Observe the status of "Throttle Lock Set/Accel Switch Position" and "Throttle Lock Resume/Decel Switch Position" on the electronic service tool.Note: The status should be "Off".
Hold the throttle speed set switch in the SET/ACCEL position and observe the status of "Throttle Lock Set/Accel Switch Position" on the electronic service tool.Note: The status should be "On".
Hold the throttle speed set switch in the RESUME/DECEL position and observe the status of "Throttle Lock Resume/Decel Switch Position" on the electronic service tool.Note: The status should be "On".Expected Result:The status should change accordingly as you change switch positions. Results:
OK - The throttle speed set switch is operating correctly. Proceed to Test Step 5.
Not OK - There is a problem in the circuit for the throttle speed set switch. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. Short the Wires at the Throttle Speed Set Switch
Disconnect the throttle speed set switch.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Install a jumper wire with male spade terminals on each end between terminal 2 (Return) and terminal 6 (Speed Set/Accel) on the wiring harness connector for the throttle speed set switch and observe the status of "Throttle Lock Set/Accel Switch Position" on the electronic service tool. The status should be "On".
Move the jumper wire to terminal 2 (Return) and terminal 1 (Speed Resume/Decel). Observe the status of "Throttle Lock Resume/Decel Switch Position" on the electronic service tool. The status should be "On".
Move the jumper wire to terminal 2 (Return) and terminal 4 (Speed Center Pos). Observe the status of "Throttle Lock Set/Accel Switch Position" and "Throttle Lock Resume/Decel Switch Position" on the electronic service tool. The status should be "Off".
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF/RESET position.Expected Result:The status should change accordingly as you short the terminals in the wiring harness connector. Results:
OK - The ECM and the wiring harness are functioning properly.Repair: Replace the throttle speed set switch.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOP
Not OK - There is a problem in the circuit between the ECM and the throttle speed set switch.Repair: Remove the jumper wire and reconnect the switch. Proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 4. Short the Inputs at the ECM for the Throttle Speed Set Switch
Remove the following wires from the P1 ECM connector:
P1:18 (Switch Return)
P1:23 (Speed Center Pos)
P1:40 (Speed Set/Accel)
P1:41 (Speed Resume/Decel)
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Install a jumper wire with Deutsch sockets on each end between P1:18 (
