3. Remove bolts (5) and cover assembly (3) from the flywheel housing.4. Remove shaft (6) from the cover assembly. 5. If necessary, remove dowels (7), bearing (8) and the seal from cover assembly (3). 6. Remove bolt (10) and adapter (9).Install Tachometer Drive
1. Put adapter (9) in position on the camshaft drive gear, and install bolt (10) that holds it. Use the following procedure to install the camshaft drive gear.a. Clean camshaft taper with a lint free cloth saturated with solvent to remove excess oil. Then clean camshaft taper with a lint free alcohol wipe to remove any residue. If the wipe is dirty after cleaning the camshaft taper, clean again with new alcohol wipe until the wipe comes back clean. It is critical that the camshaft taper be very clean, dry and free of residue before assembly.b. Repeat step a for the remaining camshaft.c. Clean camshaft drive gear tapered bore with a lint free cloth saturated with solvent to remove excess oil. Then clean camshaft drive gear tapered bore with a lint free alcohol wipe to remove any residue. If the wipe is dirty after cleaning the camshaft drive gear tapered bore, clean again with new alcohol wipe until the wipe comes back clean. It is critical that the camshaft drive gear tapered bore be very clean, dry and free of residue before assembly.d. Repeat step 3 for remaining camshaft drive gear.e. Check that Camshafts are pinned.f. Check that the flywheel is pinned.g. Place gears on the camshafts and remove backlash by rotating the gears in the opposite direction of engine rotation. For STANDARD ROTATION engines, turn the cam gears CLOCKWISE. For REVERSE ROTATION engines, turn the cam gears COUNTER CLOCKWISE.h. Install Timing Ring, accessory drive gear or plate, if applicable. Ensure that the hole in the timing ring is properly seated on the locating pin.i. Tighten cam gear retaining bolts to a torque of 360 N m (265 lb ft).j. Mark a vertical line on the cam gear retainer bolt head.k. Place driver against cam gear retaining plate and ring solidly with hammer 3-4 times.l. Retorque the cam gear retaining bolt to 360 N m (265 lb ft).m. Repeat steps k and l until the mark on the bolt has turned a minimum of 1/4 turn.n. Cam gear installation is complete. 2. Make sure dowels (7) are installed in cover assembly (3) so they extend 6.0 0.5 mm (.24 .02 inch) above the surface of the cover assembly.3. If bearing (8) was removed from the cover assembly, install the bearing with tooling (A) until it is 26 1 mm (1.02 .04 in.) below the outside surface of the cover assembly. 4. If seal (11) was removed from the cover assembly, install the seal with tooling (A) until the seal makes contact with the bottom of the bore in cover assembly (3). Make sure the lip of the seal is toward the bearing. Put clean engine oil on the lip of the seal. 5. Install shaft (6) in cover assembly (3).6. Put the gasket and cover assembly (3) in position on the flywheel housing, and make sure the splines on shaft (6) are engaged with the splines in adapter (9). Install bolts (5) that hold cover assembly (3) in place. 7. Put adapter assembly (4) in position on cover assembly (3), and install the clamps and bolts (2) to hold it in place.8. Install overspeed contactor (1) on adapter assembly (4).
