Table 1
Programmable Parameters for the Electronic Ignition System (EIS)
   DDT    Cat ET
EIS     "DET SENSORS"     "Number of Detonation Sensors"
EIS     "SPEED TIMING MAP"     "Rating Number"
EIS     "LOAD TIMING MAP"     "Engine Load Timing Map"
EIS     "ENGINE TYPE"     "Engine Configuration"
"Timing"
EIS     "DES ENG TIMING"     "Desired Engine Ignition Timing"    "Engine Type"
The "Engine Type" determines the firing order and the correct engine bank angle. After programming, the EIS control module will check the configuration of the transformer during start-up in order to determine if the correct "Engine Type" has been entered. If the configuration type is incorrect a 328-02 Number of Cylinders mismatch will be generated. The DDT will display "Undeterminded".Detonation Sensors
The EIS control module must be programmed for the number of detonation sensors that is used on the engine. After programming, the EIS control module will check the sensors in order to determine if the number that is entered is correct. If the number is incorrect a diagnostic code will be generated.Note: The number of detonation sensors that can be programmed into the EIS is zero, one, or two. The default value is set at two.Engine Performance Parameters
The speed timing map parameter allows the customer to select one of six timing maps. The timing maps are based on the maximum operating speed of the engine. These timing maps provide speed sensitive timing. Speed sensitive timing offers better engine performance under changes in the speed.Table 2 lists the six numbers for the maps and the corresponding maximum engine speeds. The default speed timing map is 01. Details of each timing map are given in the tables below.
Table 2
Map Number     Engine Speed
00     No selection
01     1200 RPM
02     1100 RPM
03     1000 RPM
04     1400 RPM
05     1500 RPM
06     1800 RPM    Load Timing Map
The "Load Timing Map" parameter allows the customer to enable the "Load Sensitive Timing Map". This parameter also allows the customer to disable the "Load Sensitive Timing Map".Map 01
The engine timing is advanced by six degrees when the intake manifold pressure approaches 50 kPa (7 psi). The timing retards back to zero degrees advance as the intake manifold pressure approaches 100 kPa (14 psi).Map 02
The engine timing is retarded by six degrees when the intake manifold pressure approaches 50 kPa (7 psi). The engine timing will advance back to zero degrees retard as the intake manifold pressure approaches the atmospheric pressure of 100 kPa (14 psi).Above 100 kPa (14 psi), the "Load SensitiveTiming Retard" remains at zero degrees for all maps.Note: The default setting is Map 02 "Vacuum Retard Load Sensitive Timing".
Table 3
Customer Options
Map     Parameter
00     No map selected
01     "Vacuum Advanced Load Sensitive Timing"
02     "Vacuum Retard Load Sensitive Timing"    Desired Timing Parameter
The desired timing parameter allows the customer to electronically program the ignition spark timing of the timing control system. The desired timing is programmed with the DDT. The value can be changed when the engine is running or when the engine is stopped. The value that is entered for the desired timing is the ignition timing when the engine is operating at the rated speed. The actual ignition timing at any instance may be less due to the selected speed timing map, the engine speed, or the detonation activities.Note: The programmed range for the desired timing is 9.0 to 40.0 degrees Top Center (TC).
