Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Start By:
Remove fuel filter base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Filter Base - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Drain" for the correct procedure.
Drain the engine lubricating oil into a suitable container. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the correct procedure.

Typical example
Use Tooling (A) to remove oil filter (7).
Make temporary marks on hoses and clamps for installation purposes only. Using a suitable tool to compress hose clamp (2), position the hose clamp away from the cylinder head. Using a suitable tool to compress hose clamp (13), position the hose clamp away from engine oil cooler (9). Remove hose (1) from the cylinder head and engine oil cooler.
Make temporary marks on hoses and clamps for installation purposes only. Using a suitable tool to compress hose clamp (6), position the hose clamp away from the water pump. Using a suitable tool to compress hose clamp (12), position the hose clamp away from engine oil cooler (9). Remove bolt (4) and clamp (3) from hose (5). Remove the hose from the water pump and engine oil cooler.
Remove adapter (8) from engine oil cooler (9) support the engine oil cooler as the adapter is removed.Note: Make a temporary mark to show the orientation of the engine oil cooler for installation.
Remove engine oil cooler (9) from the cylinder block.
Remove O-ring seal (10).
If necessary, remove adapter (11) from the cylinder block.Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Ensure that all components are clean, free from damage and wear, replace any components that are worn or damaged. Ensure that the engine oil cooler is free from damage and restriction. If the engine oil cooler is not clean, free from damage and restriction, replace the engine oil cooler as an assembly.
Clean the sealing surfaces of the cylinder block and engine oil cooler.

Typical example
If necessary, install adapter (11) to the cylinder block. Tighten the adapter to a torque of 34 N m (301 lb in).
Install a new O-ring seal (10) to engine oil cooler (9). Ensure that the O-ring seal is correctly installed into the recess of the engine oil cooler.
Position engine oil cooler (9) onto the cylinder block. Ensure the correct orientation of the engine oil cooler.
Install adapter (8) to engine oil cooler (9) support the engine oil cooler as the adapter is installed. Tighten the adapter finger tight.
Install new clamp (6) and new clamp (12) onto hose (5). Connect the hose to the water pump and engine oil cooler (9). Position the clamps into the original positions indicated on the removal. Install bolt (4) and clamp (3). Tighten the bolt to a torque of 22 N m (195 lb in). Ensure that the hose is clamped securely.Note: Ensure that the clamps are correctly orientated.
Install new clamp (2) and new clamp (13) onto hose (1). Connect the hose to the cylinder head and engine oil cooler (9). Position the clamps into the original positions indicated on the removal.Note: Ensure that the clamps are correctly orientated.
Tighten adapter (8) to a torque of 34 N m (301 lb in). Ensure that the engine oil cooler does not move as the adapter is tightened.
Install a new oil filter element (7). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil Filter - Change" for the correct procedure.
Fill the engine oil pan to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil Filter - Change" for the correct procedure.
Fill the cooling system to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Fill" for the correct procedure.End By:
Install fuel filter base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Filter Base - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
