Diagnostics
"One Flashing" (1)     Warning
"One On Continuously" (2)     Derate
"Both On Continuously" (3)     Shutdown
"Both Flashing" (4)     Loss of communication
( 1 ) One LED will flash on the gauge that is related to the warning.
( 2 ) One LED will be on continuously on the gauge that is related to the derate.
( 3 ) Both LED indicators will be on continuously on the gauge that is related to the shutdown.
( 4 ) Both LED indicators will flash if data link communication is lost. The tachometer is equipped with a liquid crystal display (LCD) that can display SPN-FMI diagnostic information. If a diagnostic code is displayed on the LCD refer to Troubleshooting, "Troubleshooting with a Diagnostic Code" for the correct troubleshooting procedure.Test Step 1. Inspect Electrical Connectors and Wiring
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF/RESET position.
Thoroughly inspect the J1939 data link and all the connectors that are associated with the analog gauges. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.
Verify that all wires that are associated with the analog gauges are connected in the correct location.Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets should be completely inserted and coupled. The harness and wiring should be free of corrosion, abrasion, and pinch points. All connections and grounds should be tight and free of corrosion. Results:
OK - The wiring appears to be OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - There is a problem with the wiring.Repair: Repair the circuit.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem. Stop.Test Step 2. Check for Diagnostic Codes
Connect an electronic service tool to the service tool connector.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Check for active diagnostic codes. Also check for repeated logged diagnostic codes that may indicate an intermittent problem.Expected Result:No active diagnostic codes are present and no repeated logged diagnostic codes are present. Results:
OK - No diagnostic codes are present. Proceed to Test Step 3.
Not OK - Diagnostic codes are present.Repair: Troubleshoot any diagnostic codes before continuing with this procedure. If there are repeated logged diagnostic codes, refer to, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect". Stop.Test Step 3. Check the LED Indicators
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Check the LED indicators on each gauge.Expected Result:None of the LED indicators are illuminated. Results:
OK - None of the LED indicators are illuminated. Proceed to Test Step 4.
One LED flashing - Engine monitoring has indicated a warning.Repair: Refer to the Troubleshooting Guide for more information. Stop.
One LED ON - Engine monitoring has indicated a derate.Repair: Refer to the Troubleshooting Guide for more information. Stop.
Two LEDs ON - Engine monitoring has indicated a shutdown.Repair: Refer to the Troubleshooting Guide for more information. Stop.
Two LEDs Flashing - There has been a loss of data link communications.Repair: Refer to Troubleshooting, "CAN Data Link Circuit - Test". Stop.Test Step 4. Determine the Extent of the Problem
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Start the engine and allow the engine run for several minutes.
Monitor the analog gauges for proper operation.Expected Result:All of the gauges are operating correctly. Results:
OK - The gauges are operating correctly. Stop.
1 or more gauges are not working - Proceed to Test Step 5.
All of the gauges are not working - Proceed to Test Step 6.Test Step 5. Check the Wiring to the Gauges
Inspect the wiring between the control module and the gauges.Expected Result:There are no problems with the wiring. Results:
OK - Repair: Connect the suspect gauge to another connector. If the suspect gauge does not work, replace the gauge. Stop.
Not OK - Repair: Repair the wiring or replace the section of harness.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem. Stop.Test Step 6. Check the Power Supply
Disconnect the J44/P44 Engine connector from the control module.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage between P44:1 (Switched +Battery) and P44:6 (-Battery).Expected Result:The voltage should be between 22 VDC and 26 VDC for 24 volt systems. The voltage should be between 9 VDC and 14 VDC on 12 volt systems. Results:
OK - The control module is receiving power.Repair: Inspect the wiring and the connectors for the Analog Power Display. Repair the connectors or wiring that is damaged or broken. Stop.
Not OK - The control module is not receiving power.Repair: Check the wiring between the control module and the battery. If there is a problem with the wiring, repair the faulty wiring. Verify that the battery is charged. Stop.
