(11) 6V-9057 Rack Synchronizing Gauge
Put 6V-9057 Rack Synchronizing Gauge Block (11) in position on one of the injectors. This gauge sits on the round part of the injector rack bar between the trim screw and the end of the rack bar. The gauge block should make complete contact with the trim screw and the surface of the rack bar. The trim screw is provided on the injectors in order to adjust the rack's zero point. This should be done AT THE FACTORY ONLY. If a unit injector has a loose trim screw, the unit injector must be replaced with a calibrated unit injector. If a trim screw has been moved, the unit injector must be replaced with a calibrated unit injector. The fuel injector cannot be synchronized if the trim screw has been moved. Note: If the correct adjustment cannot be obtained by adjusting fuel control rod (6), loosen the locknuts on rod assembly (8), and adjust the rod assembly until the correct adjustment can be obtained.
Use a screwdriver in order to pull up on each fuel control rod (4). This will ensure that the rods and the fuel injector racks are free.

(11) 6V-9057 Rack Synchronizing Gauge
While the fuel stop lever is against the synchronizing pin and the 6V-9057 Rack Synchronizing Gauge is in the position that is specified in Step 5, use a screwdriver and make an adjustment of fuel control rod (6). Slowly turn the screw on fuel control rod (6) until rack synchronizing gauge (11) fits between the fuel injector body and the shoulder at the end of the rack. Remove the screwdriver from fuel control rod (6). This will ensure that no pressure is on the linkage while the setting is checked with rack synchronizing gauge (11 ). Any pressure on the linkage by the screwdriver will not give a correct indication when the setting is checked with the rack synchronizing gauge. Move the linkage in order to ensure that the linkage is free. This will also ensure that the linkage is giving the correct setting. After you move the linkage, check the setting again.
Repeat Steps 6 and 8 for the remaining racks.
Put the 6V-3075 Dial Indicator with 5P-7263 Indicator Contact Point in 5P-4814 Collet Clamp. Install the dial indicator and the collet clamp in the threaded hole at location (Y). When the 5P-7263 Indicator Contact Point seats against fuel stop lever (10), slide the dial indicator inward or slide the dial indicator outward until the indicator reads zero. Tighten the 5P-4814 Collet Clamp enough to hold the indicator in position.
Remove synchronizing pin (2) from location (Z).
Rotate the governor terminal shaft to the minimum fuel position and hold the shaft in place.
Install rod assembly (9) between the control housing lever and the lever of the governor terminal shaft. Adjust rod assembly (9) until the dial indicator reads −9.50 mm (−0.374 inch). This dimension is called the governor deadband. The governor deadband is the amount of travel between the point of actual fuel shutoff and the actual "FUEL OFF" position. Tighten the locknut at each end of the rod assembly.
If the governor deadband measurement is reduced beyond the specification −9.50 mm (−0.374 inch), engine overspeed can occur whenever the engine is operated at high rpm without a load because it takes less rack movement to operate the engine at high rpm.
Install the valve covers.
Install the 4C-6583 Governor Calibration Adapter in the holes of the indicator of the governor shaft. Attach a lever arm on the adapter. Use the 1/2 inch socket connection. Rotate the governor terminal shaft in the "FUEL ON" direction until the flat face of fuel stop lever (10) is against the end of the fuel setting screw (3). Hold the governor terminal shaft in place. While the linkage is held in position, the dial indicator reading will be the present fuel setting.

Engine information plate
Note: See the information plate on the engine for the correct fuel setting for the full static load.
If the fuel setting is correct, remove the dial indicator and the collet from location (B). Install synchronizing pin (2) and the spacer in the storage location . Install the plugs at locations (A) and (B).
