The stainless hardware used to connect the fuel fill train with the fuel tank base may have been installed with excessive torque. Excessive torquing the hardware can cause galling and some gaskets could have been over compressed.Required Parts

Personal injury or death may result from failure to adhere to the following procedures.Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.
Before servicing/performing maintenance on the machine, electrical power must be physically disconnected; battery plugs must be disconnected from the batteries, or the trailing cable must be unplugged, and warning tags and padlocks shall be applied by a certified electrician. Certified electricians shall perform or direct any electrical work, including any energized testing, repair work in controllers, motors, or other approved compartments, and shall insure that all compartments are properly closed and inspected prior to re-energization. All applicable lock out and tag out procedures must be followed.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Check the hardware for the fuel elbow shown in the illustration above.
If there is no sign of galling on the hardware, proceed to Step 6.
If there is any sign of galling, proceed to Step 2.Note: Place an approved container or mats under the elbow during removal to catch any residual fuel that might be left in the elbow.

Remove 8 bolts (A), 16 hard washers (B), 8 full nuts (C), and 2 gaskets (D) from the elbow flanges.Note: If the full nuts cannot be removed due to galling, a reciprocating saw can be used to cut off the full nuts.
Remove the elbow from the fuel lines.
Clean any residual fuel from the flange surfaces on the elbow, fuel lines, or fuel tank. Inspect the flanges for damage to ensure that the s
