Test Step 1. Check for Connector Damage.
Verify that the circuit breakers are not tripped.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Turn the ECS to the OFF/RESET position.
Check connectors and wiring for the following problems: damage, corrosion, abrasion and incorrect attachment.Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets are completely coupled and/or inserted. The harness and wiring should be free of corrosion, of abrasion or of pinch points. Results:
OK - The connectors and wiring are okay. Proceed to test step 2.
Not OK - The connectors and/or wiring are not okay.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring.STOPTest Step 2. Check the Voltage to the Coil of the Air Shutoff Relay.
Connect a voltmeter between terminal 4 and terminal 3 on the air shutoff relay.
Turn the circuit breaker for the battery to the ON position.
Turn the ECS to the STOP position.
Activate the Emergency stop push button.
Measure the voltage across the coil of the air shutoff relay.
Turn the ECS to the OFF/RESET position.
Deactivate the Emergency stop push button.
Turn the circuit breaker for the battery to the OFF position.Expected Result:The voltage should measure 24 3 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measures 24 3 VDC. Proceed to test step 3.
Not OK - The voltage does not measure 24 3 VDC.Repair: Verify that the Generator Set control has activated the ASR. Check the GSC for an active diagnostic code. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, RENR1200, "CID 0446 FMI 12 Air Shutoff Relay Failed - Test".STOPTest Step 3. Check the Voltage from the Contacts of the Air Shutoff Relay.
Connect a voltmeter from terminal 1 of the air shutoff relay and the − Battery terminal.
Turn the circuit breaker for the battery to the ON position.
Turn the ECS to the STOP position.
Activate the Emergency stop push button.
Measure the voltage from the contact of the air shutoff relay.
Proceed to test step 4.
Not OK - The voltage does not measure 24 3 VDC.Repair: Verify that 24 3 VDC is present at terminal 2 of the air shutoff relay. If the voltage is not correct, check the circuit breakers and wiring between the battery and the air shutoff relay. If the voltage is correct on terminal 2, replace the air shutoff relay. Verify that the air shutoff system is working correctly.STOPTest Step 4. Check the Voltage at the Air Shutoff Solenoids.
Connect a voltmeter across the coil of the air shutoff solenoid.
Turn the circuit breaker for the battery to the ON position.
Turn the ECS to the STOP position.
Activate the Emergency stop push button.
Measure the voltage across the air shutoff solenoid.
Turn the ECS to the OFF/RESET position.
Deactivate the Emergency stop push button.
Turn the circuit breaker for the battery to the OFF position.
If a second air shutoff solenoid is installed, repeat the above steps for the other air shutoff solenoid.Expected Result:The voltage should measure 24 3 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measures 24 3 VDC.Repair: Temporarily install a new air shutoff solenoid. Ensure that the problem is no longer present. Reinstall the old solenoid. If the problem returns, replace the air shutoff solenoid.STOP
Not OK - The voltage does not measure 24 3 VDC. System voltage was not available at the solenoid. There is a problem in the wiring and/or connectors between the air shutoff solenoid and the air shutoff relay.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring.STOP
