The code is logged.
596-14     Implement Control : Special Instruction     The data received from the implement control ECM over the CAN A data bus is not in the correct format.
The code is logged.    The diagnostic code for the special instruction is logged in order to report the configuration status of the data link. The diagnostic code for the special instruction does not check the physical condition of the data link.
The personality module code is incorrect.
The configuration of the parameter is invalid.
There is an incorrect module or display on the data link.
The data link wiring is damaged.Test Step 1. Check for an Associated XXXX-9 Diagnostic Code
Establish communication between the electronic service tool and the Electronic Control Module (ECM) for the engine.
Check for an XXXX-9 code that is associated with the reported XXXX-14 code. Results:
An associated XXXX-9 code is logged. - Repair: Repair all associated XXXX-9 codes before continuing with this procedure. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Data Link Circuit - Test". If an XXXX-14 code is still present after resolving the XXXX-9 code, proceed to Test Step 2.
An associated XXXX-9 code is not logged. - Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. Check the Flash File for the Engine ECM
Connect the electronic service tool.
Select the engine ECM.
Check that the latest flash file is installed in the engine ECM.Results:
The latest flash file is installed. - Proceed to Test Step 3.
The latest flash file is not installed. - Repair: Perform the following procedure:
Install the latest version of the correct flash file into the engine ECM. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Flash Programming".
Reset all active codes and clear all logged codes.
Check that the fault has been eliminated. If the fault is still present, repeat the procedure from Test Step 1.Test Step 3. Check the Configuration Parameters in the Engine ECMCheck that the correct configuration parameters are programmed into the engine ECM. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Programming Parameters" section. Results:
The configuration parameters are programmed correctly. - Proceed to Test Step 4.
The configuration parameters are not programmed correctly. - Repair: Perform the following procedure:
Program the parameters to function with the other modules on the data link.
Reset all active codes and clear all logged codes.
Confirm that the fault has been eliminated. If the fault is still present, proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 4. Check for Compatibility with Other Modules on the Data LinkDetermine if all other modules on the data link are compatible with the engine ECM.Results:
All the other modules are compatible. - Proceed to Test Step
A module is not compatible. - Repair: Perform the following procedure:
Install a module that is compatible with the engine ECM.
Reset all active codes and clear all logged codes.
Confirm that the fault has been eliminated. If the fault is still present, contact the Technical Communicator at a Cat® dealer.STOPTest Step 5. Check for Compatibility with the Software in Other Modules on the Data LinkDetermine if software in all other modules on the data link is compatible with the engine ECM.
Enter the product serial number into SIS Web and select "Service Software Files".
Select "Flash Files" in order to display the latest flash file for each module.Note: The number in parentheses indicates the module for that flash file.
Use the electronic service tool to determine check that the latest flash file is installed in each module. Results:
All the other modules have the latest flash file installed. - Repair: Contact the Technical Communicator at a Cat dealer.STOP
A module does not have the latest flash file installed. - Repair: Perform the following procedure:
Install the latest flash file for the module.
Reset all active codes and clear all logged codes.
