A. Connect Cat Electronic Technician (Cat® ET) to the service tool connector.
B. Navigate to the Electronic Fluid Temperature Control #1 ECM
C. Check for active codes.

Result: A 4193-3 is active.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: A 4193-4 is active.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Result: A 4193-2 is active.
Proceed to Test Step 5.
Result: A 4193-0 is active.

3. Create a Short at the Sensor Connector
A. Turn the key switch to OFF.
B. Disconnect the coolant pump outlet temperature sensor.
C. Install a jumper wire between the following terminals at the sensor connector:
Terminal 1 (sensor signal) and Terminal 2 (sensor return)
D. Turn the key switch to ON.
E. Connect Cat ET.
F. Use Cat ET to monitor the following:
4193-4 code on the Electronic Fluid Temperature Control #1 ECM Create a Short Result: The 4193-3 code remains active.
Repair: There is an open circuit in the wiring harness. Repair or replace the wiring harness.
Verify that the repair eliminated the problem.
Result: A 4193-4 code became active.
Repair: The wiring harness is OK. Replace the sensor.
Verify that the repair eliminated the problem.
Proceed to Test Step 13.
4. Create an Open at the Sensor Connector
A. Turn the key switch to OFF.
B. Disconnect the coolant pump outlet temperature sensor.
C. Turn the key switch to ON.
D. Connect Cat ET
E. Use Cat ET to monitor the following:
4193-3 code on the Electronic Fluid Temperature Control #1 ECM
Create an Open
Result: The4193-4 code remains active.
Repair: There is a short circuit in the wiring harness. Repair or replace the wiring harness.
Verify that the repair eliminated the problem.
Result: A 4193-3 code became active.
Repair: The wiring harness is OK. Replace the sensor.
Verify that the repair eliminated the problem.
Proceed to Test Step 13.
5. Check for Opens in the Engine Coolant Pump Outlet Temperature Sensor Wiring Harness
A. Turn the key switch to OFF.
B. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Pump Outlet Temperature Sensor wiring harness from the sensor.
C. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the Coolant Temperature Control Module.
D. Measure the resistance between 10 on the Coolant Temperature Control Module 12-pin connector and terminal 1 on the Coolant Pump Outlet Temperature Sensor connector.
E. Measure the resistance between terminal 3 on the Coolant Temperature Control Module connector and terminal 2 on the Coolant Pump Outlet Temperature Sensor connector.
Open Circuit
Result: There was less than 10Ω of resistance between the Engine Coolant Pump Outlet Temperature Sensor circuit wires.
Proceed to Test Step 6.
Result: There was more than 10Ω of resistance on one of the Engine Coolant Pump Outlet Temperatures Sensor circuit wires.
Repair: There is an open in the wiring harness. Repair the wiring or replace the harness.
Proceed to Test Step 13.
6. Check for Short Circuits in the Engine Coolant Pump Outlet Temperature Sensor Wiring Harness
A. Turn the key switch to OFF.
B. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Pump Outlet Temperature Sensor wiring harness from the sensor.
C. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the Coolant Temperature Control Module.
D. Measure the resistance between terminal 10 on the Coolant Temperature Control Module 12-pin connector and a known good chassis ground.
E. Measure the resistance between terminal 3 on the Coolant Temperature Control Module 12-pin connector and a known good chassis ground.
Short Circuit
Result: There is more than 100KΩ of resistance between the connector terminal and ground on both the Engine Coolant Pump Outlet Temperature Sensor circuit wires.
Proceed to Test Step 7.
Result: There was less than 100KΩ resistance between the connector terminal and ground on one of the Engine Coolant Pump Outlet Temperatures Sensor circuit wires.
Repair: There is a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness. Repair the wiring or replace the harness.
Proceed to Test Step 13.
7. Check for Short Circuits in the Engine Coolant Pump Outlet Temperature Sensor Wiring Harness
A. Turn the key switch to OFF.
B. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Pump Outlet Temperature Sensor wiring harness from the sensor.
C. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the Coolant Temperature Control Module.
D. Measure the resistance between terminal 10 on the Coolant Temperature Control Module 12-pin connector and all other pins in the coolant temperature control module connector.
E. Measure the resistance between terminal 3 of the Coolant Temperature Control M
