Typical example
Use Tooling (A) in order to loosen bolts (1) that attach camshaft segment (3) to camshaft journals (2). The crankshaft must be rotated in order to rotate the camshaft for removal of the bolts.
If it is necessary to remove camshaft journal (2), loosen the bolts (not shown) on the other side of the journal.Note: If all of the camshaft segments and camshaft journals will be removed, all of the connecting bolts for the camshaft may be removed at the same time. However, the camshaft drive gear must be removed in order to remove the rear camshaft journal. The camshaft cannot be rotated after the camshaft drive gear is removed. Be sure that all of the necessary bolts have been removed before you remove the camshaft drive gear.

After bolts (1) have been removed, install Tooling (B) under camshaft segment (3) .
Illustration 3 g01214364
Illustration 4 g01214366
Install Tooling (D) into one of the bolt holes in flange (4). Place Tooling (C) between flange (4) and lobe (5). Orient the pins on Tooling (C) toward the flange so that the block on Tooling (C) rests against the lobe. Unscrew Tooling (D) from the flange. The bolt head will press against the block on Tooling (C). Continue to force Tooling (D) against the block. The camshaft segment will move away from the flange. The camshaft segment must be separated by a minimum of two times the length of the dowel between flange (4) and the journal.
Remove Tooling (C) and Tooling (D). Repeat Step 5 for the other end of the camshaft segment. After the camshaft segment is separated from the dowel, the camshaft segment will rest on Tooling (B) .
Carefully roll the camshaft segment out of the cylinder block on Tooling (B). Attach a suitable lifting device to the camshaft segment. The weight of the camshaft segment is approximately 30 kg (66 lb). Remove the camshaft segment from Tooling (B) .
Mark the camshaft segment for identification upon installation.
Remove Tooling (B) from the engine.
If it is necessary to remove the camshaft journal, remove the bolts that connect the camshaft journal to the next camshaft segment.
Slide the camshaft journal out of the camshaft bearing. Remove the camshaft journal from the engine.
