Do not disconnect the air lines until the air pressure in the system is at zero. If hose is disconnected under pressure it can cause personal injury.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Remove the air pressure from the air tank and drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual.

Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to air compressor (8). The weight of air compressor (8) is approximately 28 kg (61 lb).
Inspect the condition of the gasket. Replace the gasket, if necessary. Install the gasket between air compressor (8) and the front housing.
Position air compressor (8) in the front housing. Ensure that the drive gear engages correctly with the gear in the front housing.
Apply Tooling (C) to the threads of bolts (5). Install bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 100 20 N m (75 15 lb ft).
Install the mounting bracket for the air compressor by using the following procedure:
Position the bracket for air compressor (8) and install bolts (4) and bolts (6) finger tight.
A loose compressor bracket can lead to a broken front cover and can cause damage to the front gear train of the engine.
Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 60 12 N m (44 9 lb ft). Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 60 12 N m (44 9 lb ft). Remove the suitable lifting device and Tooling (A).
Connect hose assembly (7) to air compressor (8). Connect the clip that holds hose assembly (7) to air compressor (8). Tighten the bolt that holds the clip for hose assembly (7) to a torque of 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft).
Connect hose assemblies (1) and (3) to air compressor (8).
Connect hose (2) to air compressor (8).
Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedure.
