Shutdown Mode Sequence for Engines with EIS Control
A shutdown fault occurs and the GSC+ detects the shutdown fault.
In order to shut off the fuel, the GSC+ deactivates the fuel control relay (FCR). When the FCR deactivates, the coil for the gas shutoff valve deenergizes. The gas shutoff valve is deengergized.
In order to prevent the engine from starting, the GSC+ deactivates the run relay (RR), and the GSC+ deactivates the starting motor relay (SMR).
In order to remove the generator load, the GSC+ activates the genset fault relay ( GFR ). This activates the optional circuit breaker shunt trip coil.Note: The spare output may also be programmed to activate when a shutdown occurs. This output can drive a relay in order to open the circuit breaker, or the output can open a transfer switch. See System Operation, "Spare Input/Output Programming OP6".
The GSC+ will immediately activate K6, the ignition shutoff relay (ISR). The external slave ISR relay will be activated. The external slave ISR relay will ground the Ignition Shutdown (IS) input on the EIS module.
When engine speed reaches zero rpm, the GSC+ deactivates the crank termination relay (CTR). The electronic governor relay (EGR) is deactivated when the engine oil pressure reaches the setpoint P014 for low oil pressure shutdown at idle speed 70 kPa (10 psi).
The GSC+ FLASHES the corresponding shutdown indicator. If the fault shutdown indicator is FLASHING, a fault code is shown on the upper display. See Systems Operation, "Fault Description".
If the fault shutdown indicator is the only indicator that is FLASHING, additional information is available. A fault code is shown on the upper display that better identifies the cause of the shutdown fault. See the Systems Operation, "Fault Description".
The lower display continues to show the engine data.
The relay status indicators display the following relays.
K2 (GFR)
K6 (ISR)Shutdown Mode Sequence (GECM Controlled Engines)
A shutdown fault occurs. The GSC+ detects the shutdown fault.
The GSC+ provides a signal to the GECM to shut off the fuel. The Electronic Governor Relay (EGR) is used for this purpose. (When the GSC+ setpoint "Engine Type P023" is programmed to 2, the EGR and Run Relay (RR) operate in unison).
The GSC+ deactivates its internal RR. On GECM controlled engines, the GSC+ RR normally open contacts are used in order to provide power to the optional "Woodward Load Share Module".
The GSC+ deactivates its internal "Starting Motor Relay" (SMR). On GECM controlled engines, the GSC+ SMR is used in order to disconnect an optional battery charger while the engine is running.
In order to remove the generator load, the GSC+ activates the Genset Fault Relay (GFR). This activates the optional circuit breaker shunt trip coil.
The GSC+ activates K6 (Air Shutoff Relay on GECM engines) immediately during an engine overspeed fault or during a speed sensor fault (CID 190).
When the engine speed reaches 0 RPM, the GSC+ deactivates the crank termination relay (CTR). The EGR is deactivated when the engine oil pressure reaches setpoint P014 for "Low Oil Pressure Shutdown at Idle Speed", that is, 70 kPa (10 psi).
The GSC+ flashes the corresponding shutdown indicator. If the fault shutdown indicator is FLASHING, a fault code is shown on the upper display. Refer to the System Operation, "Fault Identification"portion of this document.
If the fault shutdown indicator is the only indicator that is FLASHING, additional information is available. A fault code is shown on the upper display which better identifies the cause of the shutdown fault. Refer to the System Operation, "Fault Identification"portion of this document.
The lower display continues to show the engine data.
The relay status indicators show the following:
K2 (GFR)
K6 (ASR)
K7 (FCR) - (ETS fuel systems) for 70 seconds after engine speed decreases 40 RPM and oil pressure decreases to 80 kPa (12 psi). (K7 is not shown for ETR fuel systems).Engine Start Sequence (After Shutdown)
Correct the shutdown fault. Refer to the System Operation, "Fault Identification"portion of this document.
Turn the engine control switch (ECS) to the OFF/RESET position in order to reset the GSC+. If no shutdown fault is active, the GSC+ returns to normal mode and the engine is able to start.
