System configuration parameters are parameters that affect emissions, power of the engine, and other features that define the characteristics of the engine subsystems. The parameters are preprogrammed at the factory. You may need to reprogram the system configuration parameters if the ECM is replaced and/or if you reprogram the engine rating. You do not need to reprogram the system configuration parameters if you replace the flash file. Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) can be used to view the values for these parameters. Certain system configuration parameters are stamped on the engine information plate.If a programmable parameter has not been programmed, the ECM will generate a 268-2 diagnostic code. The programmable parameter that is not programmed is also displayed on Cat ET.

The parameters that are not programmed, or programmed outside the acceptable range are listed below the 268-2 code. These parameters will be set to the factory default value. ECM Identification Parameters
Equipment ID
"Equipment ID" allows the customer to enter a description into the ECM to identify the installation. A maximum of 17 characters may be entered in the field. This parameter is only for reference by the customer. This parameter is not required.Engine Serial Number
Program the "Engine Serial Number" to match the engine serial number that is stamped on the engine information plate.Note: When you are requesting factory passwords, always use the engine serial number that is resident in the ECM.ECM Serial Number
The "ECM Serial Number" is stored in the memory of the ECM. The "ECM Serial Number" can be accessed by the use of the service tool.Software Group Part Number
This parameter identifies the part number of the flash file that is currently installed in the ECM.Software Group Release Date
This parameter identifies the release date of the flash file that is currently installed in the ECM.Software Group Description
This parameter identifies the description of the application for the flash file that is currently installed in the ECM.Selected Engine Rating
Rating Number
The rating number corresponds to the selected set of performance maps that has been selected for this application. There may be more than one set of performance maps that are available for this engine. All of the maps are resident in the flash file for the engine.Rated Frequency
This parameter defines the line frequency of the generator set.Rated Engine Speed
The optimum speed of the engine under the rated load.Rated Real Genset Power
This parameter defines the output power of the generator set in kilowatts.Rated Apparent Genset Power
The kVA rating of the generator set.Rating Configuration
This parameter identifies the performance maps that are in the software.Engine Rating Application Type
This parameter defines the type of application that defined the configuration of the engine.Engine/Gear Parameters
Acceleration Delay Time
This parameter defines the maximum waiting period before the ECM will ramp the engine to high idle.Programming this parameter to 0 will disable this function and the engine will begin to accelerate immediately.
