Remove the air cleaner.
Remove the control system.
Remove the radiator (If equipped).
Remove the fan (If equipped).
The engine can start automatically. Ensure that the power supply is isolated before any service or repairs is performed.
Turn the air supply at the air reservoir to the OFF position. Ensure that the air pressure is drained from the starting air system.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedure.
For keel cooled and sea water cooled engines, disconnect hose assembly from the auxiliary water pump.
For keel cooled engines, disconnect hose assembly from the aftercooler.
For keel cooled engines, disconnect tube assembly from the water temperature regulator housing. Disconnect tube assembly from the water pump inlet.

Disconnect fuel line assemblies (1).

Disconnect harness assemblies (2) and (3) from fuel pressure sensors . Remove cable straps and route harness assemblies through plate (4).

Disconnect hose assemblies (5). Disconnect harness assemblies (6). Remove the cable straps and position the harness assembly away from filter bracket (7).

(C) Dimension 12.0 mm (0.47 inch).
Remove blank devices (8) from the front and rear engine lifting eye.
Attach Tooling (B) onto Tooling (A) and attach Tooling (A) to a suitable lifting device.
Attach Tooling (A) onto engine (9). The weight of engine (9) is approximately 600 kg (1322 lb).
Remove engine mounting bolt (10).
Raise engine (9) to dimension (C). Position suitable cribbing under the front and the rear of the generator to support the generator.Note: Fully support the generator with suitable cribbing to stop the generator from tilting. Refer to Illustration 6 for dimension (C).

Remove the nuts and bolts (12) and remove screen (11) from the generator.

Remove locking nuts (14) and the washers from generator to the flywheel housing. Remove bolts (13) and the washers from generator to the flywheel housing. Discard the locking nuts.
Remove locking nuts (15) and the washers from generator drive plate (16) to flywheel (17). Discard locking nuts.
Slide the engine away from the generator and remove the engine.Installation Procedure
Install engine (9) in the reverse order of removal.Note: If necessary, rotate the crankshaft to align studs with the generator plate. Do not rotate the generator plate to align the drive plate with the studs.
Install new locking nuts (13). Tighten locking nuts (13) and bolts (14) to a torque of 44 N m (33 lb ft).
Install new locking nuts (15). Rotate the crankshaft one full revolution to align drive plate (16) of the generator to the flywheel (17). Tighten locking nuts (15) to a torque of 44 N m (33 lb ft)
Tighten engine mounting bolts (10) to a torque of 190 N m (140 lb ft) on both keel cooled and sea water-cooled engines and also on radiator cooled engines.
