Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot engine oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot engine oil or components to contact the skin. Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
1. Remove right hand door assemblies (1) and (2) from the engine enclosure. 2. Position a suitable container under oil filter base assembly (3). Remove O-ring plug (4) from oil filter base assembly (3) and drain. 3. Using Tool (A) remove two engine oil filters (5) from oil filter base assembly (3). 4. Remove five bolts (6) and oil filter base assembly (3) from the engine block. 5. Remove two O-rings seals (7) from oil filter base assembly (3). 6. If necessary, remove O-ring plug (9) and two plugs (8) from oil filter base assembly (3). 7. If necessary remove, fluid sampling valve (11) and dust cap (10) from oil filter base assembly (3). 8. If necessary, remove two taper lock studs (12) and shield (13) from oil filter base assembly (3). The following steps are for the installation of the engine oil filter & oil filter base.9. Make sure all components of the oil filter and base are clean of dirt and foreign material prior to installation.10. Check all O-ring seals and components for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Lubricate all O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant being sealed. 11. Apply 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant Compound to the threads of taper lock studs (12). Install two taper lock studs (12) to oil filter base assembly (3). Tighten taper lock studs (12) to a torque of 80 14 N m (59 10 lb ft). Install shield (13) to oil filter base assembly (3). Clean pipe sealant compound off the remaining threads of taper lock studs (12). 12. Install the O-ring seal on fluid sampling valve (11). Install fluid sampling valve (11) and dust cap (10) to oil filter base assembly (3). 13. Install the O-ring seals on plugs (8) and O-ring plug (9). Install O-ring plug (9), two plugs (8) to oil filter base assembly (3). 14. Install two O-rings seals (7) to oil filter base assembly (3). 15. Install oil filter base assembly (3) and five bolts (6) to the engine block. 16. Install O-ring plug (4) in oil filter base assembly (3). 17. Lubricate the engine oil filter gaskets with engine oil. Install engine oil filters (5) until the filter gaskets make contact with oil filter base (3). Using Tool (A) turn engine oil filters an additional three quarters of a turn after contact has been obtained. For the correct filling procedures refer to the topic "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" in the 24H Motor Grader, Operation & Maintenance Manual. 18. Install right hand door assemblies (1) and (2) to the engine enclosure.

Install O-ring plug (9), two plugs (8) to oil filter base assembly (3). 14. Install two O-rings seals (7) to oil filter base assembly (3). 15. Install oil filter base assembly (3) and five bolts (6) to the engine block. 16. Install O-ring plug (4) in oil filter base assembly (3). 17. Lubricate the engine oil filter gaskets with engine oil. Install engine oil filters (5) until the filter gaskets make contact with oil filter base (3). Using Tool (A) turn engine oil filters an additional three quarters of a turn after contact has been obtained.
