Refer to the Service Manual module Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release".
Remove the rear crankcase guards. For information about removing the crankcase guards, refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankcase guard".
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin. At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines and on all hoses for installation purposes. Plug all lines and all hoses. This will help prevent fluid loss and this will help keep contaminants from entering the system.Note: The hood group was removed in order to photograph the removal of the radiator.

Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly loosening filler cap (1) on the radiator. Drain the coolant from the radiator into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is 135 L (36 US gal).

Open door (2) on each side of the machine.

Attach a suitable lifting device (3) and a hoist to the panel assembly. Remove three bolts on each side of the panel assembly.
Remove the panel assembly for the machine. The weight of the panel assembly is 45 kg (100 lb).

Remove four bolts (5) and the washers. Loosen hose clamps (7). Slide the hose off tube assembly (6). Remove tube assembly (6) and the gasket.
Remove four bolts (8) and hose clamps (9). Slide the hose off the tube assembly and remove the tube assembly.
Loosen O-ring face seal nut (10) and loosen hose clamp (11). Remove the tube assembly.

Loosen hose clamp (14) .
Remove four bolts (16) and remove tube assembly (15) from the radiator.
Remove eight bolts (13) and remove baffle assembly (12) .

Remove four bolts (17). Remove shield (18) .

Install Tool (A) and attach a suitable lifting device to Tool (A). Adjust the lifting device in order to secure the radiator while the bolts are being removed.

Note: Do not damage the radiator or damage the hydraulic oil cooler during the removal of the radiator.
Remove sixteen bolts (19) that are securing the radiator to the machine.
Carefully remove the radiator from the radiator guard. The weight of the radiator is approximately 243 kg (535 lb).
