2. Remove the fuel lines (1) from the fuel injection pump to the valve cover base. Put caps or plugs on all connections to keep dirt out of the fuel lines. 3. Remove the wire (2) for the temperature indicator. Remove the hose clamps and remove the water outlet elbow (3).4. Disconnect the boost line at the aftercooler for the air fuel ratio control.5. Remove the flange for the heater hose at the front of the cylinder head. 6. Remove the bolts (4) that hold the valve cover base to the cylinder head and the timing gear housing. 7. Remove the valve cover base (5). 8. Remove the bolts that hold the cylinder head to the engine block. Install three 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolts in the head as shown. Fasten a hoist to the cylinder head (6). Remove the cylinder head. Weight of the cylinder head is 400 lb. (181.4 kg). 9. Remove the head gasket and water directors from the spacer plate. Use six 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws to remove the spacer plate (7) from the engine. Remove the gasket from under the spacer plate.10. Make certain the top of the block is not damaged and is clean.Install Cylinder Head And Spacer Plate
Always make a replacement of the gasket under the spacer plate. Do not put any adhesive on the spacer plate or gasket. Make certain the top of the block and the spacer plate are clean and dry before installation of the gasket or spacer plate. 1. Put a new gasket in position on the cylinder head. Put the spacer plate (1) in position on the gasket. Install the O-ring seal (2) as shown. 2. Install the cylinder head gasket (3) on the spacer plate. Install the water directors. Install two 3/4"-16 NF guide pins (4) in the cylinder head as shown. 3. Fasten a hoist to the cylinder head (5) as shown. Put it in position on the guide pins and lower it on to the cylinder block. Weight of the cylinder head assembly is 400 lb. (181.4 kg). 4. Put clean engine oil on the threads of the bolts for the cylinder head. Install the bolts and tighten them as follows: 1: Tighten all bolts in number sequence to 200 lb.ft. (271.2 N m).2: Tighten all bolts in number sequence to 330 10 lb.ft. (447.4 13.6 N m).3: Again tighten (hand torque only) all bolts in number sequence to 330 10 lb.ft. (447.4 13.6 N m). 5. Put the valve cover base (6) in position on the cylinder head. Install the bolts that hold it to the cylinder head and timing gear housing. 6. Put the fuel lines (7) in position on the engine. Tighten the fuel line to a torque of 30 5 lb.ft. (40.8 6.8 N m).7. Install the water outlet elbow and the hose clamps that connect it to the oil cooler. Install the wire for the temperature indicator. Install the boost line for the fuel ratio control at the aftercooler. Install the flange for the heater hose at the front of the engine head.8. Fill the engine coolant to the correct level.
