5. Remove nuts (9) and the bolts that hold adapter (7) and the fan to the fan drive.6. Carefully put the fan and adapter (7) in position against the radiator core.7. Remove the bolt that holds clip (11) to the fan drive.8. Remove three bolts (10), fan drive (8) and the spacer from the cylinder head assembly. 9. Remove spacer (12) from fan drive (8).Install Fan Drive
1. Make sure O-ring seal (2) is in position over the bearing of the fan drive as shown.2. Put spacer (1) in position on the three bolts of the fan drive as shown. 3. Put fan drive (4) and spacer (1) in position on the cylinder head assembly, and install three of the four bolts (8) that hold it in place.4. Put clip (7) in position on the fan drive, and install the bolt that holds it in place. If vee belts (6) are to be replaced, make sure the new belts are put in position before the fan and adapter are installed. Make a replacement of the vee belts as a set only.5. Put the fan and adapter (3) in position on the fan drive, and install the bolts and nuts (5) that hold them in place. 6. Push alternator (13) toward the engine, and install the bolt that mounts adjusting rod (9) to the mounting bracket. Do not tighten the bolt at this time.7. Put vee belts (6) in position on the alternator pulley. Make an adjustment to the vee belt tension with adjustment nuts (11) on the adjusting rod. Check the belt tension of the vee belt farthest from the engine with tool (A) or an equivalent. Tighten new belts to a gauge indication of 535 22 N (120 5 lb.). Operate the engine at high idle for a minimum of 30 minutes; then make another adjustment to the vee belt tension. The correct tension for a used vee belt is a gauge indication 400 45 N (90 10 lb.). Tighten two nuts (11) on the adjusting rod after the bolt tension has been adjusted.8. Tighten bolt (14) that holds the alternator to the mounting bracket.9. Tighten bolt (12) that holds block (10) to the alternator.10. Tighten the bolt that holds adjusting rod (9) in place on the mounting bracket.Disassemble Fan Drive
START BY:a. remove fan drive 1. Remove O-ring seal (3) from around the bearing.2. Remove two bolts (2) and washer (1). 3. Remove pulley (6), hub (5), bearing (4) and the spacer as a unit from bracket assembly (7).4. Remove hub (5), bearings (4) and the spacer as a unit from pulley (6).5. Remove the spacer from the shaft assembly. 6. Remove bearings (4) and spacer (8) from hub (5).7. Remove the lip-type seal from hub (5).Assemble Fan Drive
1. Use tool (A), and install lip-type seal (1) in the hub with the lip of the seal up as shown. The top of the seal must be even with the end of the hub.2. Put 5P960 Multipurpose Type Grease on the lip of the seal. 3. Install bearing (4), spacer (3) and bearing (2) in hub (5) as shown. Make sure mounting bolts (8) are put in position in the mounting bracket before the pulley and hub are installed on the shaft of the bracket assembly.4. Install spacer (6) on the bracket assembly.
Do not damage the lip-type seal in the hub during installation of the pulley and hub assembly on the bracket assembly.
5. Carefully install pulley and hub assembly (7) on the bracket assembly. 6. Put washer (10) in position on the bearing, and install two bolts (9) that hold it in place.7. Install O-ring seal (11) over the bearing as shown.END BY:a. install fan drive
