Information:
Personal injury can result from contact with refrigerant.Contact with refrigerant can cause frost bite. Keep face and hands away to help prevent injury.Protective goggles must always be worn when refrigerant lines are opened, even if the gauges indicate the system is empty of refrigerant.Always use precaution when a fitting is removed. Slowly loosen the fitting. If the system is still under pressure, release it slowly in a well ventilated area.Personal injury or death can result from inhaling refrigerant through a lit cigarette.Inhaling air conditioner refrigerant gas through a lit cigarette or other smoking method or inhaling fumes released from a flame contacting air conditioner refrigerant gas, can cause bodily harm or death.Do not smoke when servicing air conditioners or wherever refrigerant gas may be present.Use a certified recovery and recycling cart to properly remove the refrigerant from the air conditioning system.

In order to access the refrigerant compressor, open right hand doors (1) .
Evacuate the air conditioning system.Reference: Refer to Service Manual, SENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating Systems with R-134A Refrigerant"and Special Publication, NENG7006, "Air Conditioning Reference Guide". The publications will provide the proper procedure, equipment and tools in order to evacuate the air conditioning system in any Caterpillar machine.

Remove the bolt that is holding the clip (3) to refrigerant compressor (10). Identify two wire harnesses (4) and (5) for assembly purposes. Disconnect wire harnesses (4) and (5) from the refrigerant compressor (10) at the electrical connections. Move the two wire harnesses out of the way.
Disconnect two hose assemblies (7) from the refrigerant compressor (10). Place a protective cover on the compressor fittings and place a protective cover on the refrigerant lines.
Loosen two bolts (6), but do not remove two bolts (6) at this time. Loosen two adjusting nuts (2) that are used for V-belt tension. Push the refrigerant compressor (10) toward the engine in order to remove the air conditioner V-belt (9) from the V-belt pulley. Remove the bolt and nut (8) that holds the refrigerant compressor to the adjusting rod.
Remove two bolts (6) and remove the refrigerant compressor (10) from the mounting bracket.Installation Procedure
Illustration 3 g00743924
Position refrigerant compressor (10) in place on the mounting bracket. Install the bolts and washers (6). Do not tighten bolts (6) at this time.
Align the adjusting rod with the refrigerant compressor and install the bolt and nut (8). Do not tighten bolt (8) at this time.
Install the V-belt.
In order to adjust the tension on V-belt (9), use adjusting nuts (2). Tighten the nuts (2) to the following torque 150 22 N m (110 15 lb ft), after the V-belt tension has been adjusted. Reference: For information on adjusting V-belt tension, refer to the Service Manual module Operations and Maintenance Manual, "Air conditioner". Also, refer to the Service Manual module Specifications, "Belt Tension Chart".
Connect wire harnesses (4) and (5) to the refrigerant compressor. Install clip (3) that holds the wire harness (4) to the refrigerant compressor (10) .
Tighten the bolts (6) that hold the refrigerant compressor (10) to the mounting bracket. Tighten bolts (8), that hold the adjusting rod to the refrigerant compressor (10) .
Replace the O-ring seals (not shown) on the hose assemblies (7). Connect hose assemblies (7) to the refrigerant compressor (10) .
Evacuate the air conditioning system and charge the air conditioning system. Refer to Service Manual module, SENR5664, "R-134A Refrigerant", "Air Conditioning and Heating Systems with "and Special Publication, NENG7006, "Air Conditioning Tools". The publications will provide the proper procedure, equipment and tools in order to charge the air conditioning system in any Caterpillar machine. Charge the air conditioning system to2.7 kg (6 lb).
