Start By:a. remove radiator guard and supportFluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Position radiator guard and support (1) on wood blocks as shown. Remove three bolts (2), and the washers from each bracket assembly (3) and (4). Remove bracket assemblies (3) and (4) from radiator guard and support (1).
Care must be taken when removing spider assembly. Avoid making contact with any of the radiator cores during the spider assembly installation. Contact made on the radiator cores with the spider assembly may cause component damage.
2. Position a suitable lifting device on spider assembly (5) as shown. Secure the lifting device to a hoist. Remove spider assembly (5) from radiator guard and support (1). The weight of spider assembly (5) is 58 Kg (125 lb). 3. Put Tooling (A) in position on shield assembly (8). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A). Secure the lifting device to a hoist. Remove twenty bolts (6) and the washers from radiator guard and support (1).4. Remove angle assembly (7), shield assembly (8), and bottom guard assembly (9) as a unit, from radiator guard and support (1). The weight of bottom guard assembly (9), shield assembly (8), and angle assembly (7) as a unit, is 41 Kg (90 lb). 5. Position a lifting sling around tube assembly (10) as shown. Secure the lifting slings to a hoist.6. Remove bolt (11) and the washers from each side of tube assembly (10). 7. Remove two bolts (12) and the washers from each side of tube assembly (10). Remove tube assembly (10) from radiator guard and support (1). 8. Put Tooling (A) in position on radiator (15). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A). Secure the lifting device to a hoist.9. Remove eight bolts (13), and the washers that hold four caps (14) to radiator guard and support (1). Remove four caps (14) that hold radiator (15) in position in radiator guard and support (1). 10. Remove three bolts (16), the washers, and the shaft from the right side of radiator guard and support (1). Repeat this procedure on the left side of radiator guard and support (1). 11. Remove radiator (15) from radiator guard and support (1). The weight of radiator (15) is 341 Kg (750 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the radiator.12. Make sure all components of the radiator are clean of dirt and foreign material prior to installation.13. Check all components for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Make sure the rubber strip, located on top of the radiator, is positioned over the radiator cores during installation. 14. Put Tooling (A) in position on radiator (15). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A). Secure the lifting device to a hoist. Put radiator (15) in position in radiator guard and support (1). The weight of radiator (15) is 341 Kg (750 lb).15. Put four caps (14) in position on radiator (15) and radiator guard and support (1). Install eight bolts (13), and the washers that hold four caps (14) to radiator guard and support (1). 16. Install the shaft, three bolts (16), and the washers to the right side of radiator guard and support (1). Repeat this procedure on the left side of radiator guard and support (1). 17.
