41630T Mercruiser PROPELLER SHAFT

1. Disconnect each wire from the glow plugs and push lead (1) for the glow plugs clear of the cylinder head. 2. Remove the bolts that hold regulator (4) to the support. 3. Remove bolts (2) and clips that hold wire harness (3) to support (6). Move the wire harness clear of the support.4. Remove four bolts (5) that hold the support to the frame rails. Remove support (6). The weight is 90 lb. (41 kg). 5. Loosen bolts (7) that hold the alternator in place. Push alternator (8) toward the engine to release tension on the fan belts.
Do not let the fan damage the radiator core.
6. Fasten a hoist to the fan drive. Remove four bolts (9) and use a piece of wire to hold the fan drive up. 7. Loosen clamps (11) and slide hose (10) down on the water inlet elbow. Disconnect temperature sending unit (13) from the cylinder head. Disconnect wire (14) from the temperature sending unit in the side of the head.8. Remove water inlet elbow (12) from the cylinder head. Remove water elbow (15).9. Remove the bracket from the rear of the cylinder head for the power pack lifting eye.
Do not put the cylinder head down on a flat surface. This can cause damage to the fuel injection valves.
10. Remove all bolts (16) that hold the cylinder head to the spacer plate and cylinder block. Fasten a hoist and remove cylinder head (17). The weight is approximately 210 lb. (95 kg). Always install a new gasket between the spacer plate and cylinder block before the cylinder head is installed. See REMOVE SPACER PLATE.Install Cylinder Head
Be sure a new gasket has been installed between spacer plate and cylinder block. See INSTALL SPACER PLATE. 1. Thoroughly clean the spacer plate and bottom surface of the cylinder head. Install a new head gasket (2), water ferrules (1) and O-ring seal (3) on the hollow dowel. 2. Fasten a hoist and put cylinder head (4) in position on the spacer plate.3. Install the push rods and put the rocker shaft in position on the cylinder head. See INSTALL ROCKER SHAFT AND PUSH RODS. 4. Put 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of the cylinder head and rocker shaft bolts. Install the bolts and washers and tighten the bolts as follows: 1. Tighten all bolts in number sequence to a torque of 115 lb.ft. (155 N m). 2. Again tighten all bolts in number sequence to a torque of 185 13 lb.ft. (250 17 N m). 3. Again tighten all bolts in number sequence (hand torque only) to a torque of 185 13 lb.ft. (250 17 N m). 4. Tighten all bolts in letter sequence to a torque of 22 lb.ft. (30 N m). 5. Again tighten all bolts in letter sequence to a torque of 32 5 lb.ft. (43 7 N m). 6. Again tighten all bolts in letter sequence to a torque of 32 5 lb.ft. (43 7 N m).5. Make an adjustment of the valves to have a clearance of .015 in. (0.38 mm) for the intake and .025 in. (0.64 mm) for the exhaust. See VALVE CLEARANCE in TESTING AND ADJUSTING. 6. Connect temperature sensing unit (9) to the cylinder head and connect wire (10) to the temperature sending unit in the side of the head.7. Put the gaskets in place and install water elbow (8) to the water pump, cylinder head and hose.8. Put the gasket in place over the water regulator with the notch in the gasket in alignment with the hole in the cylinder head. Install water inlet elbow (7).9. Slide hose (5) up and tighten clamps (6). 10. Fasten a hoist to the fan drive and put it in position on the front of the cylinder head. Put the clips in place and install four bolts (11). 12. Put the correct tension on the fan belts and tighten bolts (13) that hold alternator (12) in place. See REMOVE AND INSTALL FAN BELTS for correct adjustment. 13. Fasten a hoist and put support (14) in position on the frame rails. Install the bolts that hold it in place. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 265 35 lb.ft. (360 47 N m). 14. Put wire harness (16) in position and install bolts (15) that hold the clips in place. 15. Install regulator (17) on the support. 16. Install bracket (18) and bolt (19) on the rear of the cylinder head for the power pack lifting eye. Tighten bolt (19) to a torque of 265 35 lb.ft. (360 47 N m).17. Connect the wires to the glow plugs.end by:a) install exhaust manifoldb) install aftercooler
