Information:

Table 1
Engine    Piston Height    Thickness of Cylinder Head Gasket (1)
3003
0.60 0.15 mm (0.024 0.006 inch)
1.30 mm (0.051 inch)
( 1 ) The dimension that is given in this column is the thickness of the gasket after the cylinder head is installed. The bolts for the cylinder head should be tightened to the correct torque.Tightening Procedure for the Cylinder Head
Illustration 1 g00454966
Bolt tightening sequence for the 3003 engineThe arrow points toward the front of the engine.
Lightly lubricate the threads and the thrust faces of the bolts with clean engine oil. Install the bolts and tighten the bolts finger tight. Evenly tighten the bolts in the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 1 for 3 cylinder engines. Tighten the bolts in the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 4 for 4 cylinder engines.Tighten the bolts to the following torque: 3003 engine ... 51 N m (38 lb ft)
Tighten the bolts again in the numerical sequence to a torque of 51 N m (38 lb ft).
Finally, tighten the bolts in the numerical sequence to a torque of 51 N m (38 lb ft).Measuring the Distortion of the Cylinder Head
Illustration 2 g00689806
Positions for measuring the distortion of the cylinder headMeasure the distortion between point (A), point (B), point (C), and point (D) .Values for the measurement of distortion The value must be less than the following number or the value must be equal to the following number. ... 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch) Maximum distortion ... 0.12 mm (0.005 inch) Do not regrind the cylinder head past the following maximum value. ... 0.15 mm (0.0059 inch)Refer to the Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting Module, "Air Inlet and Exhaust System" topic for the procedures for measuring the cylinder head. 3013, 3014, and 3024 Engines
Note: Do not use a lever to separate the cylinder head from the cylinder block. Use a rubber mallet to loosen the cylinder head from the cylinder block.A number with four digits is stamped on the gasket in order to ensure the correct positioning of the gasket. This number faces the cylinder head. When the cylinder head is installed, ensure that the gasket is the correct thickness.Use Table 2 to determine the correct piston height for the different engines. If the piston height is not correct, one or more of the following components must be replaced:
Piston pin
Piston pin bearing
Connecting rod
Connecting rod bearing
CrankshaftAfter the cylinder head is installed, the thickness of the cylinder head gasket should not be less than the dimension that is given in Table 2. If the thickness is less than the dimension that is given in the table, then install a new cylinder head gasket.
Table 2
Engine    Piston Height    Thickness of Cylinder Head Gasket (1)
3013 and 3014
0.65 0.15 mm (0.026 0.006 inch)
1.40 mm (0.055 inch)
3024
-0.33 0.13 mm (-.013 0.005 inch)
0.50 mm (0.020 inch)
( 1 ) The dimension that is given in this column is the thickness of the gasket after the cylinder head is installed. The bolts for the cylinder head should be tightened to the correct torque.Tightening Procedure for the Cylinder Head
