Information:

Effective July 1, 1992 regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publications SENR3334-01, SENR5664 and NEDG5065-01 for the proper procedure, equipment and tools to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar machine.
Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping refrigerant R-12 (CCl2F2Dichlorodifluoromethane) or refrigerant R-134A can cause freezing of human flesh. Do not smoke while working on air conditioning systems. INHALING REFRIGERANT R-12 OR REFRIGERANT R-134A THROUGH ANY SMOKING MATERIAL, ALTHOUGH NOT TOXIC OR FLAMMABLE, CAN GENERATE LETHAL PHOSGENE GAS AND CAUSE VIOLENT ILLNESS OR DEATH. ALSO, HEAT MUST NEVER BE APPLIED TO A CHARGED SYSTEM. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, SENR3334 and SENR5664, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system.
4. Release the pressure in the air conditioning system. Refer to the topic, "Evacuating The System" in the Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, SENR5664. 5. Disconnect electronic sensor (1). Disconnect upper radiator hose assemblies (2). Disconnect turbo water return line (3). 6. Disconnect lower radiator hose assembly (4). Disconnect air conditioning lines (5). Disconnect air conditioner lines from the air conditioner compressor. Plug or cap all openings to prevent moisture and contamination from entering the system.7. Remove the vibration damper guard.8. Remove all hydraulic lines as necessary, to remove the engine.9. Remove all air lines as necessary, to remove the engine.10. Remove all fuel lines as necessary, to remove the engine.11. Remove all electrical wiring as necessary, to remove the engine.12. Fasten a lifting device to the lifting eyes on the engine and support the weight of the engine with a suitable hoist. 13. Remove four mounting bolts (5) from the front engine support. 14. Remove bolts (7) that connect pump drive (6) to the engine. Secure the engine from the rear so that the engine does not swing forward and damage the radiator. 15. Remove three bolts (8) from each side of the rear engine mounts. Loosen the remaining three bolts on each side of the rear engine mounts. Loosen the four resilient engine mounting bolts on each side of the engine.16. Remove the engine from the machine. The weight of the engine is approximately 8535 Kg (18,000 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the engine.17. Ensure that all mating surfaces for the engine mounts and the pump drive are clean.18. Install the engine in the reverse order of removal.19. Tighten bolts (7) that connect the pump drive to the engine to a torque of 105 20 N m (77 15 lb ft).20. Tighten mounting bolts (5) for the front engine support to a torque of 900 100 N m (665 75 lb ft). Tighten mounting bolts (8) for the rear engine mounts to a torque of 1050 150 N m (775 110 lb ft).21. Fill the radiator with coolant. Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct capacity and fluid.22. Refer to the Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual SENR5664 and NEDG5065 for the correct procedure for evacuating and charging the system.23. Connect the batteries.
