2. Fasten a hoist to hood assembly (1). Remove the bolts and hood assembly (1) from the machine. The weight of the hood assembly is 38 kg (83 lb). 3. Remove four bolts that hold pipes (2) in position. Loosen the clamp that holds elbow (3) in position. Remove the pipes and elbow. Pipes (2) and elbow (3) weigh 26 kg (58 lb).4. Loosen the clamps, holding elbows (4) and (6) in position, and remove pipe (5) and elbows. Pipe (5) and elbows (4) and (6) weigh 37 kg (82 lb). 5. Loosen two clamps (8) and remove elbow (7). Follow the same procedure on the right side of the machine also. 6. Loosen clamps (10) and (16). Fasten a hoist to tube assembly (14) and (15). The weight of tube assembly (14), elbow and tube (15) is 25 kg (55 lb). Remove the bolts and strap from clamp (9). Remove tube assembly (14), elbow and tube (15) as a unit. Follow the same procedure on both sides.7. Loosen clamps (13). Fasten a hoist to tubes and elbows (12). The weight of tubes and elbows (12) is 27 kg (59 lb). Remove four clamps (11). Remove tubes and elbows (12) as a unit. 8. Disconnect the ether aid tubes at fitting (17). 9. Remove the bolts and clips that hold wire harness (18) and hoses (20) to tube assembly (19). Lower the wire harness and hoses to the frame.10. Fasten a hoist to tube assembly (19). Remove bolts (21) and remove tube assembly (19). The weight of tube assembly (19) is 68 kg (150 lb).
Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping Freon-12 (C C12 F2 Dichloro Difluoro Methane) can cause freezing of human flesh.Do not smoke while working on air conditioning systems. Inhaling Freon-12 through any smoking material, although not toxic or flammable, can generate phosgene gas and cause violent illness. Also, heat must never be applied to a charged system. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, Form No. SENR3334, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system.
11. Disconnect hose assemblies (22) and (23) from air conditioning compressor (21). 12. Disconnect hose assemblies (24) and (27) and wire connector (25) from the side of the cab.13. Remove three clips (26). Remove the two hose assemblies and wiring harness (25) from the clips, and store them on the engine. 14. Disconnect hoses (28) and (29) from air dryer (30) and store them on the engine. 15. Disconnect hoses (31) and (32) from the air starter. 16. Disconnect ground wire (33) from the frame. 17. Turn the fuel supply off at fuel tank shut-off valve (34). 18. Disconnect hose assembly (36) from fuel transfer pump (38).19. Disconnect hose assembly (37) from transmission oil cooler (35). 20. Disconnect the fuel return hose assembly from fitting (39). Put a cap on fitting (39). 21. Loosen two hose clamps and remove hose (40) from the transmission oil cooler.22. Loosen the hose clamps and disconnect hoses (41) and (42) from the valve assemblies. 23. Loosen two hose clamps and disconnect hose (43) from tube (44).24. Disconnect hose assembly (45) from the brake oil cooler. 25. Disconnect hose assembly (46) from tube assembly (47). 26. Disconnect hose assembly (48) from the brake oil cooler.27. Remove bolt and clamp (49) and disconnect hose assembly (50) from the brake oil cooler.28. Remove the bolt and clamp that fastens hose assembly (48) to the front of the torque converter housing. 29. Remove hose assembly (52) from elbow (53) and diverter valve (51). Loosen the hose clamps and remove hose (54). 30. Disconnect hose assembly (55) from elbow (53). Disconnect hose assembly (56) from the spacer. 31. Disconnect hose assembly (57) from the torque converter inlet relief valve.32. Disconnect hose assemblies (58) and (59) from the torque converter housing.33. Disconnect hose assemblies (61) and (62) from torque converter oil pump (63).34. Disconnect hose assembly (60) from the parking brake release section of pump (63). 35. Disconnect hose assembly (64) from pump (63).36. Disconnect hose assemblies (65) and (66) from the brake cooling section of pump (63). 37. Disconnect hose assemblies (68), (69) and (71) from the lockup clutch valve.38. Disconnect hose assembly (70) from the torque converter housing.39. Remove main driveshaft guard (67). 39. Disconnect cable (72) from the tackometer drive. 40. Remove fitting (73) and loosen the collar at the rear of yoke assembly (74), (part of main drive shaft).41. Remove the bolts that hold spider and bearing assembly (75) to the torque converter yoke.42. Slide yoke assembly (74) away from the torque converter yoke. 43. Remove the bolts that hold drive shaft guard (77) and remove drive shaft guard (77).44. Remove bolts (78) and disconnect drive shaft (76), (auxiliary drive shaft). 45. Remove nuts (80), washers and bolts that hold caps (79) in position. Remove caps (79) from both of the rear engine supports. 46. Remove ground strap (81) from the engine front support. 47. Remove nuts, washers and bolts (83). Remove top cushions (82) from both sides of engine front support (84). 48. Fasten a hoist to the engine. Remove the engine and torque converter, from the truck. The weight of the engine and torque converter is approximately 8,375 kg (18,500 lb). The following steps are for installing the engine and torque converter 49. Fasten a hoist to the engine. Put lower cushions (82) in position in engine front support (84). Put the engine and torque converter in position in the truck. Be sure mounting surfaces are free from paint or dirt. 50. Install sleeve (85) on both sides of the engine front support. Install upper cushions (82). Install bolts (83) washers and nuts.51. Install caps (79) on the rear engine supports, and install bolts, washers and nuts (80). Tighten bolts and nuts (80) to a torque of 270 25 N m (200 18 lb ft). Install ground strap (81) on the
