Put the No. 1 piston at the Top Center position on the compression stroke. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Finding The Top Center Compression Position For the No. 1 Cylinder" and Testing and Adjusting, "Crankshaft Position for Valve Lash Setting". Pin the camshaft.
Orient one of the camshaft drive gear's 1/2-13 threaded holes to the 12 o'clock position. The four 1/2-13 threaded holes form a diamond pattern.
Install spacer (2) and the speed-timing wheel. Orient extra tooth (4) near sensor (5). Loosely install the four bolts to enable speed-timing wheel to be moved.
Rotate the speed-timing wheel in the direction of the camshaft rotation. Rotate the wheel until the first tooth after the extra tooth is aligned with the centerline of the sensor.
Tighten the four bolts.
Install the cover for the speed-timing wheel.
Remove the camshaft timing pin from the camshaft. Install the timing pin in the storage position.Adjusting the Engine Speed/Timing Sensor

Clean the tip of the crankshaft sensor (3) and the counterbore for the sensor in the mounting plate.
Lubricate O-ring seal (12) with clean engine oil.
Install the sensor into the counterbore in the mounting plate. Make sure that the sensor is properly seated.Tighten sensor ... 40 5 N m (30 4 lb ft)
Measure the gap between the sensor head and the flywheel. The distance must not exceed 4 mm (0.157 inch).
Clean the tip of the camshaft sensor (1), the camshaft sensor (2), the sensor mounting flange, and the counterbore for the sensor in the rear housing.
Lubricate O-ring seals (5) with clean engine oil.
Install the sensor into the counterbore in the rear housing. Make sure that the sensor is properly seated and that the bracket is flush with the mounting surface. Use the bolt to secure the bracket to the rear housing.
Measure the gap between the sensor head and the first tooth after the extra tooth on the timing wheel. The distance must be between 0.6 and 1.4 mm (0.024 inch and 0.055 inch). If the gap is too large, remove material from the housing to attain the correct gap. If the gap is too small, use 119-9738 Shims to attain the correct gap.
Make sure that the connector on the engine harness is in good condition. Connect the engine harness to the sensor connector. Make sure that the mating of the connection is secure.
