Information:
Start By:a. remove hood
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped, and the cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly loosening the filler cap on the radiator.2. Drain the coolant from the radiator and oil from the hydraulic oil cooler.3. Open the engine panels on both sides of the machine. Remove the lower access panels below the left and right engine panels. 4. Remove four bolts and washers (1). 5. Remove four bolts and washers (2) from guard (3) and remove the guard. 6. Remove four bolts and washers (4) from guard (5) and remove the guard. 7. Disconnect quick connect (6) on the right side of the engine. It is necessary to evacuate the freon in the air conditioning system before any lines are removed. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual FORM NO. SENR3334-01.
Effective July 1, 1992 regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publication SENR3334-01 and NEDG5065-01 for the proper procedure, equipment and tools to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar machine.
Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping Freon-12 (C C12F2 Dichloro Difluoro Methane) can cause freezing of human flesh.Do not smoke while working on air conditioning. Inhaling Freon-12 through any smoking material, although not toxic or flammable, can cause violent illness. Also heat must never be applied to a charged system. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual Form No. SENR3334-01, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system.
8. Remove air conditioner hose (7). 9. Remove six bolts and washers (8) (three on each side of radiator). 10. Open radiator cover door (9) and loosen hose clamp (10). 11. Loosen hose clamp (11).12. Remove two hydraulic lines (12). Cap and plug all openings.13. Disconnect quick connect (13). 14. Attach straps and suitable lifting device to tool (A) and remove radiator and guard (14).
Do not damage the radiator cores when the fan assembly and adapter are placed against them.
15. The weight of the radiator is 102 kg (225 lb). For installation of the radiator, reverse the removal steps. Fill the hydraulic oil cooler and the radiator to the correct levels. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedures.16. Start the machine, and check for leaks.End By:a. install hoodRemove & Install Radiator Core
