Information:

start by:a) remove fuel injection linesb) remove fuel ratio control1. Make a setting of the fuel injection pump timing as follows: a) Turn the engine clockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) with tool (A) until the No. 1 piston is at top center of the compression stroke. See FINDING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in 3406 VEHICULAR ENGINE TESTING AND ADJUSTING.b) Install the timing pin in the flywheel.c) Remove the plug from the side of the fuel injection pump housing. Install tool (B) through the hole in the pump housing and into the notch in the fuel injection pump camshaft. If tool (B) can not be installed in the notch of the fuel injection pump camshaft, the fuel injection pump is not in time with the engine and the following procedure must be followed. d) Remove cover (1) and gasket from the automatic timing advance cover. e) Loosen four bolts (2) until washer (3) is loose. f) Remove two of the bolts 180° apart. Install tooling (C) in their place.g) Put a bar between the bolts and turn the fuel injection pump drive shaft clockwise until tool (B) can be installed in the notch of the fuel injection pump camshaft.h) Remove tooling (C). Install the bolts so the washer is loose.i) Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel. Turn the engine 60° counterclockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) with tool (A).j) Tighten the bolts that hold the washer to the automatic timing advance by hand. Turn the engine clockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) with tool (A) until the No. 1 piston is at top center compression stroke.k) Tighten the bolts (2) in the following sequence:Step 1. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 25 lb.ft. (35 N m).Step 2. Remove tool (B).Step 3. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 50 lb.ft. (70 N m).Step 4. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 100 5 lb.ft. (135 7 N m).
Do not tighten bolts (2) to a final torque without the removal of tool (B).
1) Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) two complete revolutions and check the timing to see that the timing is correct. If the timing is correct, do not remove tool (B) from the fuel injection pump housing or the timing bolt from the flywheel.m) If the timing is not correct, do the procedure in Steps f through l again. 2. Disconnect governor control cable (6) from the lever.3. Remove two bolts (7). Pull bracket (8) and governor control cable clear of the governor.4. Disconnect fuel lines (4) and (5) from the fuel injection pump. 5. Disconnect fuel lines (9) and (11) from the fuel transfer pump.6. Disconnect two wires (12) from the solenoid. Put identification on the wires for the correct installation.7. Remove bolts (10) that hold the fuel injection pump to the engine block.8. Remove the hood panel from above the fuel injection pump and governor. 9. Fasten a hoist to the fuel injection pump housing and governor. Remove five bolts (14). Remove fuel injection pump housing and governor (13). The weight of the fuel injection pump housing and governor is 74 lb. (34 kg).Install Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor
1. Fasten a hoist to the fuel injection pump housing. Put fuel injection pump housing and governor (1) in position on the fuel injection pump and governor drive.2. Install the bolts that hold the fuel injection pump housing to the fuel injection pump and governor drive. Install the bolts that hold the fuel injection pump housing to the cylinder block. 3. Connect fuel lines (6) to the fuel transfer pump.4. Connect the wires (5) to the solenoid.5. Connect fuel lines (2) to the fuel injection pump housing.6. Install bracket (4) on the governor.7. Connect governor control cable (3) to the lever.8. Remove tool (A) from the fuel injection pump housing. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel. Turn the crankshaft two complete revolutions clockwise (as seen from the front of the engine), and check the timing to see that the timing is correct. If the timing is not correct, see REMOVE FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNOR for the timing procedure.9. Remove tool (A) from the pump housing. Install the plug in the pump housing. 10. Install gasket and cover (7) on the automatic timing advance cover. 11. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel. Install plug (8) in the flywheel housing. Install cover (9).12. See GOVERNOR CONTROL ADJUSTMENT in 3406 VEHICULAR ENGINE, TESTING AND ADJUSTING for the correct adjustment of the lever and the link on the governor.end by:a) install fuel ratio controlb) install fuel injection lines
