Introduction
Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.Introduction
The purpose of the engine rerate process is to enable Cat Dealers to reconfigure an electronic engine to a new power rating. This process may be required when a Dealer orders an engine, but due to a subsequent change in requirements, is left with inventory that is different to what is needed by the customer. The engine rerate is achieved by changing the following:
The engine flash file
The engine emissions control labels
The engine manufacturer business records that describe the engine manufacturedAll three of these elements must be addressed for the new engine configuration to remain in a certified state and therefore conform to applicable emissions laws.Note: Cat Dealers are expected to order engines in the configuration they are planned to be sold and to use the rerate process by exception. Rerates will be rejected from Dealers that order engines intending to use the rerate process to achieve the intended configuration.Note: Engine rerates are not permitted where any kind of engine hardware change is required.Note: Multiple rerates on the same engine are not permitted.Note: Rerating of Flex engines is not permitted.Note: Rerates are not conducted on sell-off engines after the applicable emissions stage has ended for the engines in questionThe current cost of an engine rerate is 250 USD. This cost may be revised if the volume of requests increases.General Comments
To update engine manufacturer business records (Technical Marketing Information (TMI)), a new engine arrangement number is required. Include the new arrangement number in the request form. If the arrangement number is unknown, a new arrangement number will be required. Contact the account manager to discuss a new arrangement number.Rerates are only permitted within the same group code. Refer to column 1 in Table 1, Table 2, Table 3, Table 4, Table 5, and Table 6.Requests for rerates are to be made by the Dealer, in partnership with the account manager, using the "JIRA" service tool : "https://ercrequestspilotprogram.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/group/19".If an engine is rerated, the existing emissions control label must be removed and a corrected label applied. The accuracy of the emissions control labels is a conformance obligation. Take photographs of the engine emissions control labels before and after the engine rerate. The photographs must be submitted through the JIRA service tool as part of the rerate process.New emissions labels and serial number plates will be despatched from Peterborough, U.K. If premium shipment is required, include a DHL account number in the GLS label request form. UPS shipment is not available from the U.K.If an engine rerate request is approved, factory passwords will be issued when the photographs with the old and new emissions labels have been received through the "JIRA" service tool.Download the applicable flash file and use Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) to install the flash file. Refer to Troubleshooting, ECM Software - Install for the correct procedure. Factory passwords will be required to complete the software installation. Refer to Troubleshooting, Factory Passwords for more information. If an engine rating has new FLS/FTS numbers, use Cat® ET to configure the FLS/FTS to the new values.Rerate of Industrial Power Units must have prior approval to determine if the appropriate cooling package is installed. The Dealer is responsible for ensuring that the Application and Installation (A & I) audit is completed. As Cat machines have bespoke ratings, they are not included in this document. The requestor, along with Engineering Services, is responsible for establishing that a rerate falls within the rules allowed regarding hardware configuration before submitting a request through "JIRA".There are occasions where Caterpillar creates a unique arrangement for customer validation purposes. In these circumstances, Caterpillar reserves the right to decline the request based on approval processes including product management, applications, engineering services, and the Emissions Regulations and Conformance Group.Affected Products
