2. Put pressure on top of the fan belt tightener with a pry bar. With pressure on the fan belt tightener, remove vee belts (2) from the pulleys. 3. Remove the cotter pin, pin (3) and disconnect spring (5) from fan belt tightener (4). 4. Remove bolt (6), the washer and the fan belt tightener from bracket assembly (7).Install Fan Belt Tightener
1. Put fan belt tightener (1) on bracket assembly (2). Install the washer and the bolt that hold it. 2. Connect spring (4) to the fan belt tightener with pin (3) and the cotter pin. 3. Use a pry bar and put pressure on the fan belt tightener to install vee belts (5) on the pulleys. 4. Install guard assemblies (6) on the shield assembly.Disassemble Fan Belt Tightener
START BY:a. remove fan drive and fan belt tightener **It is not necessary to remove the fan drive and the fan belt tightener as a unit from the engine. For the removal of the fan belt tightener, see Remove Fan Belt Tightener. 1. Remove the cotter pin, pin (5) and disconnect spring (3) from the arm assembly.2. Remove the cotter pin, pin (2) and spring (3) from the bracket assembly.3. If necessary, remove nut (1) and retainer (4) from the bracket assembly. 4. Remove bolt (6), the washer and arm assembly (7) from the bracket assembly. 5. Remove bolts (9) and cover (8) from the pulley. 6. Remove bolt (10) and washer (11) from the shaft. 7. Use tooling (A) and remove pulley (12) from the shaft. 8. Remove bearing (14) and spacer (13) from the pulley. 9. Remove retainer (16), bearing (15) and the lip type seal from the pulley. 10. Use a hammer and punch (17) to remove the pin from arm assembly (7). 11. Use a press and remove shaft (18) from arm assembly (7).Assemble Fan Belt Tightener
1. Make an alignment of the groove in shaft (2) with the pin hole in arm assembly (1). Use a press and install shaft (2) in arm assembly (1). 2. Use a hammer and a punch to install pin (3) in arm assembly (1). 3. Use tool group (A) to install the lip type seal in pulley (4). Install the seal even with the chamfer and with the lip of the seal as shown (toward the arm assembly). Put 5P960 Multipurpose Type Grease on the lip of the seal. 4. Install bearing (6) and retainer (5) in pulley (4).5. Install pulley (4) on the shaft of arm assembly (1). 6. Put 5P960 Multipurpose Type Grease in the cavity between the bearings. Install spacer (8) and bearing (7) in the pulley. 7. Install washer (10) and bolt (9) on the shaft. 8. Put cover (11) in position on the pulley and install the bolts that hold it. 9. Put arm assembly (1) in position on the bracket assembly as shown and install washer (13) and bolt (12) that hold it. 10. Install retainer (17) on the bracket assembly and the washer and nut (14). Tighten the nut to a torque of 45 7 N m (33 5 lb.ft.).11. Put spring (19) in position on retainer (17) and install pin (15) and the cotter pin that hold it.12.
