Information:
High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) Failure Detection
Software will diagnose health of HPFP by monitoring fuel rail pressure
1684-12 diagnostic code will become active if HPFP failure is detected
If code becomes active, replace the HPFP.Improved Diagnostic Capability for E396 and E398 High and Low Rail Pressure Events
Rail Pressure Events tuned to be less sensitive during engine transients (when rail pressure is changing)
Rail Pressure Events tuned to be more sensitive during steady state conditions to better diagnose rail pressure issuesModification to the Fuel Injector "-2" Codes
Long valve closing time (VCT) on injectors detects an injector that drops out. Logs a "-2" code on that injector
Injector is disabled when (VCT) is outside of window
Similar to other injector diagnostics, with 2 active diagnostics on one bank of the engine, engine derates 50 percentSecondary Fuel Filter Restriction Strategy Change
Improved signal filtering strategy on pressure sensor signals
Modified software strategy to display fuel filter restriction as a percentage as opposed to actual restriction values
Percentages have been correlated to actual restriction and will provide a view of useful life remaining on the filtersModifications to the E1106 High Fuel Pump Flow Event Code
Adding two-level functionality to E1106 code
E1106 Level 1 code will function the same as previous versions of engine software. The software looks at fuel control valve position and fuel demand in all rail pressure ranges
Logging an E1106 Level 1 code will not light the check engine lamp
E1106 Level 2 code will only monitor at rail pressures under 80 MPa (11600 psi) which is more of a concern due to the inability to restart if the engine is shutdown
If an E1106 Level 2 code is logged, the operator should not shutdown the truck until the truck is in a safe location for serviceEnhancements to the 8V Supply Diagnostic Strategy
Diagnostic Strategy change to better diagnose intermittent short circuits or open circuits in the 8V supplyEnhancements to Injector "-7" Code Strategy for Improved Code Detection
Changes to provide a more stable Valve Opening Time (VOT) measurement and more consistent results
Level 1 and Level 2 functionality added to "-7" code
Level 1 codes are intended to be an advanced notice to schedule the injector repair
Level 2 codes are more urgent.
Fuel System Verification Test VOT limit reduced to help with "-7" codes that clear and come back, or codes that do not repeatFuel Priming Strategy Change
Priming Pump will now run with prelube pump at startup to allow for improved startability
Previous software versions did not activate the priming pump until engine cranking had begun
Bypassing prelube will also bypass the fuel primingThe new engine software replaces the existing software and is adaptable back to first production on the serial numbers listed above. Refer to Table 1 for a list of the new and former software part numbers.
