See REMOVE GOVERNOR (WOODWARD PSG) for the removal of the governor drive housing. 1. Remove the bolt and locknut that holds rod (1) to the lever. Remove plug (2), the spring and the strainer assembly. 2. Use a hammer and a punch to remove dowel (3) that holds the shaft in position in the governor drive housing. 3. Remove ring (4) that holds the lever against the sleeve.
Spring (9) is under tension. To prevent personal injury, do not remove shaft and lever (8) until the tension on spring (9) is released.
4. Pull lever (7) to the right away from sleeve (5) until it is disengaged from the sleeve. Let lever (7) turn toward surface (10) until the tension of spring (9) is released.5. Remove the end of spring (9) from the hole in lever (7). Remove bolt (6) that holds the spring in position on sleeve (5).6. Remove the shaft and lever (8), lever (7), spring (9) and sleeve (5) from the governor drive housing. 7. Remove bolt (11). Remove lever (8) from shaft (12). Remove the key from the shaft. 8. Remove lip type seal (16) from the governor drive housing. Use tooling (A) to remove two bearings (14). Remove dowels (13) and four studs (15) if a replacement is necessary.Assemble Governor Drive Housing
1. Install dowels (1) in the governor drive housing. Install the dowels so they extend 5.6 0.5 mm (.220 .020 in.) above the surface.2. Install studs (2). Tighten the studs to a torque of 14 4 N m (10 3 lb.ft.).
When bearings (3) and (5) are installed, hit on the end of the bearing that has the writing on it.
3. Use tooling (A) to install bearing (3) in the governor drive housing. Install the bearing so that dimension (X) is 124 0.8 mm (4.88 .030 in.).4. Install bearing (5) in the governor drive housing with tooling (A). Install the bearing so it is 0.8 0.5 mm (.030 .020 in.) below the surface of the counterbore for the seal.5. Use tooling (A) to install lip type seal (4). Install the seal with the lip in as shown. Put clean engine oil on the lip of the seal. 6. Put the key in position on shaft (8). Install lever (6) and bolt (7). 7. Install lever (9), spring (10), sleeve (11) and lever and shaft (8) in the governor drive housing. Make sure the flat side of sleeve (11) is toward the outside. The end of the spring with the loop must be toward the outside. 8. Put 9S3263 Sealant on the threads of bolt (13). Fasten the loop end of spring (10) to sleeve (11) with bolt (13). With lever (9) in the farthest most position toward surface (12), install the end of spring (10) in the hole in lever (9).9. Move lever (9) away from surface (12) until the notch in lever (9) is in alignment with the notch on sleeve (11). Push the lever in position against the sleeve.10. Install ring (14) that holds lever (9) in position against sleeve (11). 11. Make sure the groove in shaft (8) is in alignment with hole (16). Install dowel (15) to hold shaft (8) in position in the governor drive housing. Install the dowel so it is 16 3 mm (.63 .12 in.) below surface (17). 12. Install rod (18) on the lever. Install the bolt and locknut that hold it in place. Install the strainer assembly, the spring and plug (19). Make sure the side of the strainer assembly with the screen is toward plug (19).13. Install the governor drive housing on the fuel injection pump housing. See INSTALL GOVERNOR (WOODWARD PSG) for the procedure to install the governor drive housing on the fuel injection pump housing.
