Information:
Personal injury or death can result when charging an air conditioning system with a liquid. The compressor will pump the refrigerant back into the charging cylinder with the possibility of rupturing (exploding) the cylinder.Do not operate the engine when charging with a liquid. Never charge liquid or gas through the discharge (high side of the system) with the engine running.Keep all other personnel either away from the machine or where they can be seen when working on the air conditioning system.
Personal injury can result from contact with refrigerant. This system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Heat should never be applied to a charged system. Contact with refrigerant can cause frost bite. Keep face and hands away to help prevent injury.Protective goggles must always be worn when refrigerant lines are opened, even if the gauges indicate the system is empty of refrigerant.Always use precaution when a fitting is removed. Slowly loosen the fitting. If the system is still under pressure, release it slowly in a well ventilated area.Personal injury or death can result from inhaling refrigerant through a lit cigarette.Inhaling air conditioner refrigerant gas through a lit cigarette or other smoking method or inhaling fumes released from a flame contacting air conditioner refrigerant gas, can cause bodily harm or death.Do not smoke when servicing air conditioners or wherever refrigerant gas may be present. Before any checks of the air conditioning and heating system are made, move the machine to a smooth horizontal surface. Lower all implements to the ground. Make sure the transmission is in neutral or park and that the parking brake is engaged. Keep all other personnel either away from the machine or where they can be seen.
Open the engine hood.
Evacuate the air conditioning system. See Service Manual, SENR5664 and Special Publication, NEDG5065 for detailed information about evacuating the air conditioning system of any Caterpillar machine. Recover the air conditioner refrigerant from the air conditioner system. Refer to Service Manual, SENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating Systems with R-134a Refrigerant" for the correct procedure. Refer to Special Publication, NEDG5065, "Air Conditioning Tools" for the correct tools.

Remove bolt (5) , the washer and the nut. Tilt the refrigerant compressor toward the engine in order to loosen the tension on V-belt (6) . Remove the V-belt from the drive pulley on the refrigerant compressor.
Remove two bolts (7) and the washers that secure refrigerant compressor (4) in position. Remove refrigerant compressor (4) from the machine.Installation Procedure
Inspect all parts and clean all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Position refrigerant compressor (4) to the machine. Install two bolts (7) and the washers that secure refrigerant compressor (4) in position.
Tilt the refrigerant compressor toward the engine. Install the V-belt to the drive pulley on the refrigerant compressor. Install bolt (5) , the washer and the nut in order to adjust the tension on V-belt (6) .
Adjust the tension of V-belt (6) . See the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7028 for the proper procedure.

Connect electrical connectors (1) and (2) to the refrigerant compressor.
Connect both pressure hose assemblies (3) to the refrigerant compressor.
The preferred method for charging any air conditioning system is reclamation of the refrigerant, evacuation of the system, and charging with the correct amount of refrigerant. The correct charge is 1.8 kg (4.0 lb) .
Evacuate the air conditioning system and charge the air conditioning system. See Service Manual, SENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating Systems with R-134a Refrigerant" and Special Publication, NEDG5065, "Air Conditioning Tools" for the correct procedure, for the tools, and for the proper equipment for charging the air conditioning system of any Caterpillar machine.
