2. Loosen the hose clamps on hoses (1) and (6). Slide the hoses down on the elbows.3. Remove the bolts that hold inlet elbow (2) to the water pump. Remove the inlet elbow.4. Disconnect vent line (4) from engine block.5. Remove bolts that hold water pipe (5) to water pump. Loosen clamp on hose and turn water pipe to (5) to one side.6. Disconnect vent line (7) from the water pipe for engine oil cooler. Disconnect the water pipe from water pump. 7. Fasten a hoist and remove nuts (3) that hold the water pump to timing gear cover. Remove water pump (8). Weight is 85 lb. (38.6 kg).Install Water Pump
1. Fasten a hoist and put the water pump (4) in position on engine. Install nuts to hold it in place.2. Connect water pipe (3) to water pump.3. Install inlet elbow (1) and connect the hoses.4. Connect vent line (2) to engine block. 5. Connect water pipe (5) for engine oil cooler to bottom of water pump.6. Connect vent line (6) to the water pipe.7. Install engine side cover and fill cooling system to correct level.Disassemble Water Pump
start by: a) remove water pump1. Remove inlet elbow and housing from the pump body. 2. Loosen bolt in the impeller 1/8 in. (3.18 mm). Install tooling (A) with 2 5/16 in. and 2 3/8 in. flat washers on the bolts in tooling (A). Loosen the impeller on shaft. Remove tooling (A) and impeller.3. Remove the rubber seal and wear ring under the impeller. 4. Loosen bolt in the drive gear 1/8 in. (3.18 mm). Install tooling (B) and loosen the drive gear on shaft. Remove tooling (B) and drive gear.5. Remove the bolts, locks and bearing retainer from the pump body. 6. Turn the body over and put it on two blocks. Drive the shaft (1) and bearings out of the pump body with a plastic hammer. 7. Remove bearings (2) and spacer (3) from shaft.8. Remove the carbon ring and rubber seal from the seal case. Remove the seal case from the pump body with tooling (C).9. Remove the lip seal from the pump body with tooling (D).Assemble Water Pump
1. Install the lip seal in the pump body with tool (A). The lip of the seal must be toward the gear when installed. Put clean engine oil on the lip of seal. 2. Install the seal case in pump body with tool (B) and a press. Make sure that the seal case is down against the seat. Be careful not to damage the seal case.
The guard has been removed from the press for better illustrations.
3. Install the bearings and spacer on the shaft. Put clean engine oil on the bearings. 4. Install the shaft and bearings in the pump body. Use the retainer (2) and four bolts without locks to push the bearings into their correct position in the pump body. Install locks on bolts.5. Install the gear (1) on shaft. Tighten the bolt in gear to a torque of 34 3 lb.ft. (4.7 0.4 mkg). 6. Install the rubber seal and carbon ring (6) in the seal case (5). Carefully bend the small parts (tabs) of case in to hold the carbon ring in the case.7. Install wear ring (4) and rubber seal (3). The smooth surface of the wear ring (4) must be toward the carbon seal when installed.8. Install the impeller. Tighten the bolt in the impeller to a torque of 34 3 lb.ft. (4.7 0.4 mkg).9. Install the pump body in the housing with the flat place on pump body in alignment with the fitting in housing.end by: a) install water pump
