Information:

1. Drain the coolant below the level of the water temperature regulator housing. 2. Disconnect the hose from the elbow that is connected to the radiator (not shown).3. Remove the bolts and disconnect the elbow from the radiator (not shown).4. Remove the bolts, elbow (1), the hose and the tube assembly as a unit from the water temperature regulator housing.5. Remove the bolts, elbow (2) and the tube as a unit from the water temperature regulator housing. 6. Use tool (A) and remove coolant filter (3) from the water temperature regulator housing. 7. Remove bolts (5) and water temperature regulator housing (4) from the cylinder head.Install Water Temperature Regulator Housings
1. Make sure all gasket surfaces are clean and free of any foreign material. 2. Put gasket (2) and water temperature regulator housing (1) in position on the cylinder head. Make sure the regulator spring is toward the cylinder head. 3. If the stud that holds coolant filter (3) in place is damaged, make a replacement. See Disassemble Water Temperature Regulator Housings.4. Install coolant filter (3) on the water temperature regulator housing. See the Maintenance Guide for correct installation and replacement intervals. 5. Make sure the O-ring seals are in position on tube (5).6. Install the gasket, elbow (4) and tube (5) as a unit on the water temperature regulator housing.7. Install the gasket, elbow (6), the hose and the tube assembly as a unit on the water temperature regulator housing.8. Install the gasket and connect the elbow to the radiator (not shown).9. Connect the hose to the elbow (not shown).10. Fill the cooling system to the correct level. See the Maintenance Guide.Disassemble Water Temperature Regulator Housings
START BY:a) remove water temperature regulator housings1. Remove the regulator from the water temperature regulator housing. 2. Remove plug (1), the spring and the ball from the regulator housing.3. Remove bolt (2), the washer, handle (3) and the valve as a unit from the regulator housing. 4. Remove O-ring seals (4) from valve (5).5. If necessary, use a hammer and a punch to remove pin (6). Remove handle (3) from valve (5). 6. Remove seal (7) from the regulator housing.7. If necessary, remove ferrule (8) and coolant filter stud (9) from the regulator housing.Assemble Water Temperature Regulator Housings
1. If coolant filter stud (2) was removed, put 9S3263 Thread Lock on the threads of stud (2) that are installed into the regulator housing. Install the stud and tighten it to a torque of 60 7 N m (44 5 lb.ft.).2. Use tool group (A) and install seal (1) into the housing. Make sure the lip of the seal is toward the inside of the regulator housing as shown. Put clean engine oil or glycerine on the lip of the seal.3. Install ferrule (3) in the regulator housing with the orifice toward the inside of the housing. 4. Install handle (5) on valve (4). Install pin (7) that holds them together. Make sure the pin is even with the outside surfaces of the handle.5. Install O-ring seals (6) on valve (4). Put clean engine oil or glycerine on the O-ring seals. 6. Install valve (4) into the regulator housing and install washer (9) and bolt (11) that hold it in place.7. Install ball (12), spring (10) and plug (8) into the regulator housing.
The engine will run hot if the regulator is installed wrong.
8. Install regulator (13) in the regulator housing with the spring away from the housing as shown.END BY:a) install water temperature regulator housings
