Install the retainer and bolts that hold it to the timing gear plate. end by:a) install fuel transfer pumpb) install fuel injection pump housing and governorc) install automatic timing advanceDisassemble Fuel Injection Pump And Governor Drive
start by:a) remove fuel injection pump and governor drive 1. Remove cover (1) from housing. Remove adapter, shaft assembly, bearing and races.2. Remove shaft (2) from housing. 3. Remove shaft assembly (4) from adapter (3). 4. Remove bearing races (5) and (7) and bearing (6) from the shaft assembly. 5. Remove lip seal (8) from the adapter. 6. Remove O-ring seal (10) from the shaft.7. Remove spiral lockring (9). 8. Use a press and tool (A) to remove bearing (11) from the shaft.Assemble Fuel Injection Pump And Governor Drive
1. Heat the bearing to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install bearing (1) on the shaft. 2. Install spiral lockring (3) on the shaft.3. Install O-ring seal (2). 4. Put a small amount of SAE 30 oil on the O-ring seal. Install shaft assembly (4) in housing (5). 5. Install shaft assembly (7) in adapter (6).6. Put tool (A) on end of shaft assembly to prevent damage to the lip seal when it is inltalled in the adapter. 7. Use a press and tooling (B) to install the lip seal in the adapter. Install the seal with lip toward the gear. 8. Install bearing and races (9) on the shaft assembly.9. Install shaft assembly, adapter, gaskets and cover (8) in the housing. end by:a) install fuel injection pump and governor driveSeparation Of Governor From Fuel Injection Pump Housing
start by: a) remove fuel injection pump housing and governor 1. Remove bolt (1). Remove cover (2). 2. Remove bolts (3). Remove cover (4) from the governor housing.3. Remove the strainer from the cover. 4. Remove high idle screw (6) and low idle screw (5).5. Remove screw (11) that holds rack stop collar (10) to the governor shaft. Remove rack stop collar (10) and the spring from the governor shaft.6. Remove bolt (9) and nut. Remove lever (7) from the shaft.7. Remove bolts (12) that hold the governor housing to the fuel injection pump housing. Remove governor housing (8). 8. Remove seat (13) and governor spring (14). Remove the washer and wave-type washer (16) from the seat.9. Remove three bolts (17) and lock that hold cylinder and weight assemblies (15) to the pump housing. Remove the cylinder and weight assemblies from the rack.Connection Of Governor To Fuel Injection Pump Housing
1. Put the cylinder and weight assemblies (1) on fuel injection pump housing. Be sure the groove (slot) in piston (2) is engaged in groove (slot) in the rack (3). 2. Install the lock and three bolts (4) that hold cylinder and weight assemblies on the pump housing. 3. Install governor spring (6). Put wave-type washer (7) and washer (8) in position on seat (5). Install seat (5) on the bolt. 4. Put lever (10) in position on the shaft. Install the bolt and nut that hold it.5. Put governor housing (9) in position on the fuel injection pump housing. Install the bolts that hold it.6. Install the spring and rack stop collar (13) on the governor shaft. Install the screw that holds it.7. Inspect the O-ring seals on the two idle screws and replace if necessary. Install low idle screw (11) and high idle screw (12).8. Put strainer into position in cover. The screen of the strainer must be next to the governor housing.9. Put the cover in position on the governor housing. Install the bolts that hold it. Put the cover for the idle screws in position on the cover. Install the bolt that holds it.end by: a) install fuel injection pump housing and governorb) make adjustments to the rack and governor (see RACK SETTING and GOVERNOR ADJUSTMENTS in 3406 VEHICLE ENGINE, TESTING AND ADJUSTING)
