FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot water or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Look at the sight gauge to check the coolant level. The coolant level should be in the green range. If necessary, remove the fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand. Remove the cooling system fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system condition contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and do not drink. Allow cooling system components to cool before draining.
Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses and tubes to prevent foreign material from entering the system. Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal. 1. Remove four bolts (1) and separate lower coolant elbow (2) from lower radiator tank (3). Remove bolts (4) that secure the coolant drain hose. 2. Disconnect wiring harness connections (5) on the right radiator support brace. Remove bolts (6) that hold the radiator support brace to the power pack frame. 3. Install Tooling (A) on top radiator tank (7). Attach a hoist the Tooling (A). Remove the four bolts that fasten the radiator support to the power pack frame. Carefully lift the radiator and radiator support away from the power pack frame. The weight of the radiator and radiator support is approximately 467 Kg (1030 lb). 4. Disconnect the wiring harness at lamp module electronic control group (8). Remove the clips for the wiring harness along the top of the radiator tank. Remove two bolts (9) and reposition right brace (10) and the wiring harness out of the way. Remove the remaining bolts that hold shield assemblies (11) and the radiator to the radiator support assembly. 5. Install Tooling (B) on the radiator. Attach a hoist to Tooling (B) and carefully lift and move radiator (12) out of radiator support assembly (13). The weight of the radiator is approximately 295 Kg (650 lb).Install Radiator & Radiator Support Assembly
