Information:
1. Turn the engine until No. 1 piston is at top center (TC) compression position. Install bolt (1) in the flywheel and timing pin (2) in the intake camshaft. 2. Remove the fuel lines (3) from inside the camshaft housing.3. Disconnect the glow plug wires from the outside of camshaft housing.4. Remove the lifting bracket from the front of the cylinder head. 5. Remove end cover (5) from the camshaft housing.6. Remove nuts (6) and locks from front of camshaft housing.7. Remove bolts (4) that hold the camshaft housing to cylinder head. 8. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolts in the camshaft housing. Fasten a hoist and remove the camshaft housing (7). Weight is 120 lb. (54 kg).Install Camshaft Housings
1. Adjust all valve adjustment screws for maximum valve clearance. 2. Put the timing marks on the drive gears (3) for the camshafts in alignment and install timing pin (2) in camshaft.3. Check to be sure that crankshaft is at (TC) compression position for No. 1 piston and timing bolt is installed in flywheel.
If above procedure in Steps 1 to 3 are not followed, damage to the engine can be the result.
4. Fasten a hoist and put the camshaft housing in position on engine. Make sure the camshaft gear teeth are engaged in the teeth of the drive gear before installing the bolts that hold the housing in place.5. Install the bolts (4) and nuts (1) that hold the camshaft housing in place. 6. Install the camshaft housing end cover (6) and bracket (5). 7. Install fuel lines (7) inside the housing. Tighten nuts on fuel lines to a torque of 30 5 lb.ft. (4.1 0.7 mkg).8. Connect the glow plug wires (8) to glow plugs.9. Connect the glow plug wire to the camshaft housing.10. Remove timing pin (2) from camshaft and install in storage position.11. Remove bolt from flywheel and install cover.12. Adjust the valve clearance.end by: a) install valve coverb) install fuel injection linesDisassemble Camshaft Housings
start by: a) remove camshaft housings 1. Remove glow plug wires (1) from housing.2. Remove end plates (2) from housing.3. Remove thrust plate that holds the camshafts in place. 4. Remove timing pin (3) and pointer.5. Remove bolts (4) and lock from the two camshaft gears.6. Remove the two camshafts carefully from the housing.7. Remove the camshaft gears from the housing.8. Remove the fuel line adapters from the housing. 9. Remove bolts (5) that hold the rocker shafts in place.10. Remove the shafts (8) and rocker arms (6).11. Remove the guide pins (7) from the bottom side of the housing. 12. Remove dowel (11), pin (9) and roller (13) from rocker arms.13. Remove screw assemblies (14), plungers (12) and springs (10).Assemble Camshaft Housings
1. Install springs, plungers and screw assemblies (1) in rocker arms.2. Install roller (2), pin and dowel (3) in rocker arms. Install the pin from top of the arm. 3. Install guide pins (4) in the housing from the top.4. Install rocker arms (6) and shafts (5). Install bolts that hold the shafts in place. 5. Install the fuel line adapters (7).6. Put the camshafts in position in the housing. The shaft with the hole for the timing pin is the inlet camshaft. The shaft with EX on it is the exhaust.7. Install the gears on the camshafts with the "V" mark on the tooth of the thick gear in alignment with "V" mark in the space on thin gear. Install thrust plate (8) and bolts. 8. Install pointer (10) in housing. The pointer must be in line with the mark on thin gear when the timing pin (9) is installed.9. Install the locks and bolts to hold the gears in place on the camshafts.10. Install the end plates and glow plug wires.end by: a) install camshaft housings
