Start By:a. remove hoodb. remove radiator guardc. evacuate air conditioning system Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Effective July 1, 1992 regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publication SENR3334-01, SENR5664 and NEDG5065-01 for the proper procedure, equipment and tools to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar machine.
Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping refrigerant R-12 (C C12F2Dichloro Difluoro Methane) and refrigerant R-134A can cause freezing of human flesh.Do not smoke while working on air conditioning. Inhaling Refrigerant R-12 or R-134A through any smoking material, although not toxic or flammable, can cause violent illness. Also heat must never be applied to a charged system. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual Form No. SENR3334-01 and SENR5664, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot water or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Look at the sight gauge to check the coolant level. The coolant level should be in the green range. If necessary, remove the fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand. Remove the cooling system fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system condition contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and do not drink.Allow cooling system components to cool before draining.
1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly loosening the filler cap on the radiator. Drain the coolant from the radiator into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is 25 Liters (6.5 U.S. Gal) .
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the fill plug only when the engine is stopped and the fill plug is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
2. Remove eight bolts (2) and three clips (3) and plate (1).3. Remove seven bolts (4) and two clips (5). 4. Remove seven bolts and cover (6). 5. Loosen hose clamp (9) and disconnect lower radiator hose (8).6. Remove two bolts and spacers (7). 7. Loosen hose clamp (12) and disconnect upper radiator hose (13).8. Remove six bolts (11) and upper support (10). 9. Attach a hoist and tooling (A) to the radiator as shown. Remove the radiator. Weight of the radiator is 58.5 kg (129 lb). Install in reverse order.End By:a. install radiator guard
