23721 Mercury RING, RETAINING - LOWER MOUNT

1. Lockout the electrical system of the machine with key (1) that is located behind the left side engine compartment door. 2. Remove four bolts (2) and washers from cover (3). Remove cover (3) from the battery box. 3. Remove two bolts (4), the nuts and washers that hold guard (5) to the side of the machine. 4. Remove bolt (6), the washer and the nut that hold guard (5) to the side of the machine. Lift guard (5) off of pin (7). Remove guard (5) from the side of the machine. 5. Loosen bolt (8) that holds the negative terminal to the battery, and remove the terminal. Repeat this step to remove the positive terminal.6. Remove two nuts (9) and washers that secure hold down (10) to the hold down rods. Remove hold down (10) from the rod and the battery.7. Use two people, or a lifting sling and a hoist to remove the battery from the battery box. The weight of the battery is 27 Kg (60 lb).8. Remove four bolts (13), the washers and the nuts that hold guard (11) to support bracket (14). Remove guard (11) from support bracket (14).9. Remove four bolts (12) and washers that hold support bracket (14) to the side of the machine. Remove support bracket (14) from the side of the machine.10. Repeat Steps 2 through 9 in order to remove the remaining battery and battery box.Install Batteries & Battery Boxes
1. Position bracket (14) to the side of the machine. Install four bolts (12) and washers that hold support bracket (14) to the side of the machine.2. Position guard (11) to support bracket (14). Install four bolts (13) and washers and the nuts that hold guard (11) to support bracket (14).3. Use two people, or a lifting sling and a hoist to install the battery to the battery box. 4. Position hold down (10) to the rod and the battery. Install two nuts (9) and washers that secure hold down (10) to the hold down rods. Tighten self locking nuts (9) to a torque of 9.8 1 N m (7 .7 lb ft).5. Install the positive terminal to the battery. Install the negative terminal to the battery. Tighten the terminal bolts to a torque of 7.2 1.4 N m (5 1 lb ft). Install the rubber boots over the terminals. 6. Position guard (5) to the side of the machine and onto pin (7). Install two bolts (4), the nuts and the washers that hold guard (5) to the side of the machine. Install bolt (6) and washer and the nut that hold guard (5) to the side of the machine. 7. Position cover (3) to the battery box. Install four bolts (2) and washers in order to secure cover (3) to the battery box.8. Repeat Steps 1 through 7 to install the remaining battery and battery box. 9. Unlock the electrical system of the machine with key (1) that is located behind the left side engine compartment door.
