Information:
1. Remove the rear fenders. Loosen two hose clamps (2). Remove air cleaner assembly and line (1). 2. Disconnect starting aid tube (4). Remove bracket (3). Disconnect electrical connector (5). 3. Close two pet cock valves (7). Disconnect two heater hoses (6). 4. Disconnect two electrical wires (8). 5. Remove bolt (9) and reposition heater hoses (6) out of the way. 6. Disconnect two fuel lines (10) from the fuel tank. Prior to disconnecting air conditioning lines, the system must be purged. Refer to the Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, Form No. SENR3334-01 and SENR5664 for purging the system.
Effective July 1, 1992 regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publication SENR3334-01, SENR5664 and NEDG5065-01 for the proper procedure, equipment and tools to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar machine.
Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping refrigerant R-12 (C C12F2 Dichloro Difluoro Methane) and refrigerant R-134A can cause freezing of human flesh. Do not smoke while working on air conditioning. Inhaling Refrigerant R-12 or R-134A through any smoking material, although not toxic or flammable, can cause violent illness. Also heat must never be applied to a charged system. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual Form No. SENR3334-01 and SENR5664, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system.
7. Disconnect air condition hose assembly (11) from the accumulator. Remove bolt (12) and separate the hoses. Remove bolt (13) and reposition air condition hose assembly (11). 8. Disconnect electrical connector (14).
Typical Example9. Put a suitable floor jack (15) in position under the transmission so it will not fall when the engine is removed. Put slight lifting pressure on the transmission. 10. Attach Tool (A) to the engine. Put slight lifting tension on the engine.11. Remove twelve bolts (16) that hold the transmission to the flywheel housing.12. Remove two bolts (19) and reposition analyzer (18) out of the way.13. Remove two mounting bolts (17) and remove the engine. The weight of the engine is 772 kg (1700 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the engine. Check the condition of the O-ring seal used on the transmission housing. If the seal is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.14. Attach Tool (A) to the engine and put the engine into position. Align the gears of the transmission housing to the flywheel housing.15. Install bolts (16) that hold the transmission to the flywheel housing.16. Install two engine mounting bolts (17). When installing engine mounting bolts (17) tighten the mounting bolts to a torque of 530 70 N m (390 50 lb ft).17. Install two bolts (19) and reposition analyzer (18).18. Remove floor jack (15) from under the transmission. 19. Connect electrical connector (14). 20. Connect air condition hose assembly (11) to the accumulator. Install bolt (12) and (13) and reposition air condition hose assembly (11). 21. Connect two fuel lines (10) to the fuel tank. 22. Reposition heater hoses (6) and install bolt (9). 23. Connect two electrical wires (8). 24. Connect two heater hoses (6). Open two pet cock valves (7). 25. Connect starting aid tube (4). Install bracket (3). Connect electrical connector (5). 26. Install air cleaner assembly and line (1). Tighten two hose clamps (2).End By:a. install radiator guard & radiatorb. install hydraulic tankc. install hood
